627 Horses Consigned To Los Alamitos Equine Sale LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA—From day one, Ed Allred and Frank "Scoop" Vessels promised the Quarter Horse racing world that their Los Alamitos Equine Sale would be bigger and better each year. After enjoying very successful sales during its first two years of operation, the Los Alamitos Equine Sale will definitely be bigger than ever as 627 horses have been consigned as of this writing to this year's sale to be held on October 6 and 7. That figure represents an impressive 33% increase in consignments from 2006.
"This will be our biggest sale yet and we're very excited," said Dino Perez, the business manager of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association, which manages the sale. "I believe that the increase in the number of consignments is a credit to the beautiful Los Alamitos Equine Sale facilities and the prices that the sellers and buyers are seeing at the sale.
"Sellers are getting the price that they want for their horses and the buyers are getting great value for their money," Perez added. "When horsemen are happy with the selling price and the buying price, that's when you know you're doing something right. The feedback has been outstanding from both buyers and sellers and we're going to work even harder this year to make sure that this is our biggest and best sale from every possible angle."
Perez said that the support from out-of-state consignors has taken the Los Alamitos Equine Sale to a higher level.
"The first year it was mainly California breeders and owners consigning horses," Perez recalled. "Now we have hugely important operations such as Lazy E Ranch, JEH Stallion Station, Royal Vista Equine, Burnett Ranches LTD/6666 Ranch, Muller Racing, LLC and Anjora Corporation to name a few bringing horses to the sale."
The Los Alamitos Equine Sale will also feature the dispersal sale of Francisco Gonsalez's outstanding equine stock. The Gonsalez's dispersal totals 68 horses with the biggest name being leading stallion Make It Anywhere. In addition to the 9-year-old stallion by First Down Dash out of champion broodmare Seperate Ways, Gonsalez will also sell seven horses of racing aged - headed by the 2-year-old Copa King, who is a multiple winner at Los Alamitos this season - 11 yearlings, 25 weanlings, 23 broodmares and a pair of recipient mares each carrying an embryo transfer. Both embryos are out of Special Copauino, who is also the dam of the aforementioned Copa King. One of the embryos is by Make It Anywhere while the other is by Separatist.
Make It Anywhere stood for a $3,000 fee at Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma in 2007. The First Down Dash stallion is a half-brother to World Champion stallion Separatist. Make It Anywhere is the leading third crop sire by average earnings per starter with over $14,000 per starter.
