I am looking at breeding to an outside stallion and was looking at the expense and dang it I can't stand trying to figure out all the expenses.... breeding fee (I understand that) chute fee, collection fee (shouldn't they be the same dang thing) courier fee, etc... I finally emailed the farm and said can you please sum it up how much for 1st dose total.. she emailed back and said which stud.. hmmm do you have different amounts for different stallions I told her I understood the stud fee I needed the others totalled. I think some of this is such a scam. For example The Love Man huge thing going in performance horses 2009 special stud fee 500.00. All other fees for 1st shipment will cost you 1,000.00 if you need a 2nd shipment another 500.00 so for a 500.00 stud fee if you need 2 doses of semen you have 2,000.00 involved before it even gets to your mare what a stinking racket. We should have a stallion station. Some of these farms have the nerve to charge a 650.00 chute fee + collection fee + courier fee + ... cheaper in this market to go buy the proven performer with awsome bloodlines than to mess with some of these farms. Found a beautiful pally not a hole in his papers money earners throughout NRHA, NCHA, NWCHA and he is broke not shown beautiful asking 1,800.00 hmmm I could breed unlimited mares probably get some breedings to him then sell him for probably what I have in him. LOL.

I will pay the stud fee and shipping. This chute fee and collection fee is a rip off. If they must have it they should hide the fee's in the stud fee.

The chute fee, collection fee, evaluation fee (that makes me laugh) all are from the stallion station and go to them not the stallion owner the stallion owner get the stud fee only (hmm how many doses can you get from one collection one chute and one evaluation that is the big bull. so how many people are paying that fee for one collection). I think there should be one fee then they (stallion owner and farm) divide it up quit making it so dang difficult. I agree I will pay the shipping for the actual amount only. The $125-$250 for a courier to the airport makes me laugh for these big farms who probably have 5+ doses going out a day during the busy season on just one stallion (heck that is just one stallion and some stand up to 10 stallions) and probably only use one courier one time. For a stallion station whose one and only business is to stand stallions you would think they should eat the courier fee or just pay one of their hourly staff who make $8.00 hr to run it.

I don't know for sure how many you get out of one collection but its a few. And every person gets charged that so look at the money being made. Total rip off, If I pay the collection and chute fees I should be getting the whole collection. I realise they have the extender that costs but I don't think its that expensive and goes a long way.

Sure is a rip off,got riped off myself.
Didnt bank on collection fees etc as when asked the total and if that included everthing they said yes. The mare didnt take first time also i think a con, seems many never take on first time.

What i dont understand is with live cover you dont expect to pay for the stallion to ejaculate into the mare etc etc. It all part and part.

But you have to pay to collect and inseminate the mare with AI. It is a con.

There a a few geniune people out there but they are few and far between. Definatley cheaper to own your own stud if your able too.

affraid I am speaking from a point of someone who has a stallion, collects him, evauates the semen, extends it, prepares it to ship, packs it in ready to breed syringes and overnight FedX's it in my own container.. RIP OFF.... I paid thousands of dollars to do this.

Even when I was not set up and had to have the vet do it and pay them $225.00 I ate the rest. You cannot pass this on to the mare owner just because you do not have your poo together. No

I have also had semen shipped to me where the cost is 250.00.. If the semen needs to go to the airport because the mare owner got caught with their pants down then I charge 100.00 for that.. That does not even cover what it cost me to spend two hours driving to the airport or the cost to fly it. . I would not pass the rest on to the mare owner. Basketball

My contract states I need at least 24 hours notice to get the semen shipped.. This means I can go out drunken the next day, do the phantom dance and get the semen out. cheers

I also receive semen by air from a stallion who did not ship normally.. They did not charge me for that. They got up at 2am, collected and prepared the semen to fly and drove 4 hours to get it to me.. This is a stallion station.. By the way, the mare got in foal on this semen 1st time out.. bounce

Lynn, if you are looking for Lena bred stallion with accomplishments go to Rising Sun Quarter Horses web site and see the one they have. They are the greatest people to deal with and will take care of you.. Dancing

Normally if you are going to charge a chute fee it is one time. Shipping has gone up, but, that is my propblem.. Other then a container deposite, someone who is standing a stallion should get a life and understand they are not going to get rich since no one will buy the semen. I would never have some stand my stud and do that to a mare owner.. Evil or Very Mad

I charge 1000.00 fee for QH, Appy and off brands and that includes the first shippment. Then, it's 250.00 after that to your door.. That is full price with no hidden fees. Paint I charge 500.00 fee and 250.00 shipping. I do this to keep the paint foals in BT and TC.. I do this so I can keep Tommy in the incentives to show his babies.. study

Sorry, BLAH BLAH BLAH... But, I was shocked at the fees and would never breed a mare to a stallione where I was nickle and dimed to get the semen out of him.. Rolling Eyes

By the way, Tommy is so laid back you have to poke him to jump and collect him.. "OK your ready now get up there".. HE HE HE.. But, even with that it takes about 30 min on a bad day to get the semen and then another 20 min to get it ready to breed the mare or ship it.. UM.. That is less then a hour to have good semen ready to go to the mare... Sleep

Good Grief... booty

I like that Miss N Cash... will have to show to Bob do you know the people who have Coosa? They are standing a gorgeous son of Rooster and he is only a couple of hours from me... 500.00 buckskin and was at the world show 2008 has 115 aqha pts... www.rosewoodhorseranch.com their email isn't working so I haven't been able to find out fees either live cover or semen I could go either way with them. I really should stop looking since I have semen from a stallion I like but I do like to look and the semen I have is frozen so it will keep for as long as I like and I could sell some or use it next year if I like the cross as I think I will breed one of my stallion's daughters to him. With the extra $ we are getting from the trade we are buying the cooler and keeping the semen at home noone around here stores frozen semen may just decide to run an add about storing it for a small fee... I told Bob we should store a bunch on Peppy then geld him oh boy did he not like that idea lol!

Sorry, but as a person that too, collected and shipped, I get mad now that I see all these fees that are a bunch of CRAP.. and when they go to tell me, why... I tell them excuse me.. BUT... And the costs Are...... And I move on the the next stallion, and I tell them why. You have a stud fee!
They did pay for their shipping costs depending on where it is going, not one price, the actual price! I was not charging 100.00 for a 59.00 charge.
If they had their container, ship it to me, otherwise, they can use a throw away, and get charged or pay a deposit and rent mine, once returned, they get the deposit back. I did not nickle and dime them to death. The collection was what the vet charged. NOT more nor Less. I mean I could collect not a problem, just dealing with rules it was easier with the vet cert.s

Having gone through what I did having to use the vets to collect and prepare semen I would never do that again. I paid about 3500.00 for my lab equipment and got everything I needed to do it myself. This even included the semen counter. My husband built the phantom. cheers

I spent just about that much just getting my own mares in foal to my own stallion in one year. I do not live cover my stud. This is my choice of the way I do things. We did that in the past and decided then that we did not want to go that route for several reasons. study

I would not breed to an outside stallion if they had those fee's attached. What I can tell you is that what you get in the way of semen from these people may or may not be usable semen. You pay for that anyway and get nothing. These people do not refund.. No

A gal in Idaho that bred her mare to my stallion told me the year before she spent 3000.00 for shipped semen and did not get one single mare in foal. That semen was coming from some of the top ranches in the country and out of world champion stallions. I was very happy when I shipped to her that her mare got in foal on the first shippment. bounce
