Evangeline Downs
OPELOUSAS, LA—OCTOBER 11, 2007—A highly competitive field of ten state bred two-year-olds led by undefeated Pro Prospect and Angels Quick Scoop are set to square off in the restricted Grade I $336,198 LQHBA Sales Futurity at 350 yards on Sunday evening at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino.
After a total of 15 trials each worth $12,000 in which more than 140 youngsters participated, the ten fastest qualifiers were separated by only .21 seconds, with the next ten fastest qualifiers separated by another .07 seconds.
Both
Pro Prospect and
Angels Quick Scoop recorded their second lifetime victory in as many starts while winning their respective trial in front-running fashion. Pro Prospect, a gelded son of Hail Corona won his trial by 1 ½ lengths while earning the seventh fastest qualifying time of 18.014 for the 350 yards. Owned by Angela Guillory and Renee Cain, Pro Prospect has drawn post position eight and will race as part of a Heath Taylor trained entry and will be ridden by Gilbert Ortiz, who was aboard for both of his wins.
Angels Quick Scoop is one of five fillies to qualify for the final (including fastest qualifier
Miss Creek Dasher, by Toast to Dash). The daughter of Magic Scoop recorded the sixth fastest qualifying time of 19.994 while winning her trial by a length. She will leave the gate from the rail post and will be ridden by Jerry Yoakum for owner/trainer Bobby Martinez.
Cute N Shiny and
Dash to Celebrate, the most accomplished runners in the field with a total of 7 wins and almost $140,000 earned between the two, loom as the main challengers to the top picks. Cute N Shiny, a daughter of First To Shine, punched her ticket to the rich final with an easy wire-to-wire victory in a time of 17.920. Owned by her trainer Paul Rigdon in partnership with J. R. Stevens III, she will be ridden for the first time by Martin Rubalcava.
Dash to Celebrate, who has drawn the outside post in the ten-horse field, recorded a professional ½ length win in his trial under Larry Payne in the time of 18.049. The gelded son of Toast to Dash is owned by Mars Racing and conditioned by Bobby Martinez. Immediately preceding the LQHBA Sales Futurity on the ten-race program is the
$59,329 Invitational Sales Stakes, the consolation event for the LQHBA Sales Futurity. Also at the distance of 350 yards, this event is made up of the eleventh thru twentieth fastest qualifiers from the 15 trials that were held on opening night.
Native Shine, a gelded son of First To Shine who has won 4 of 5 career starts including the Louisiana Laddie Futurity at Delta Downs this past May, has been installed as the 5/2 morning-line favorite in the ten-horse field. G. R. Carter Jr. will be in to ride for owners Starla and Noe Martinez & trainer Heath Taylor.
