MY BUDDIE MEETS BIKERS BONO

July 26, 2007 – The ballyhooed My Buddie tries to live up to his billing when he meets the undefeated Bikers Bono in the $400,000 Governor’s Cup Futurity (RG1) at Los Alamitos on Saturday night.

The richest race on the California Breeders Champions Night program offering nearly $1 million in purses, the Governor’s Cup Futurity is the first time Ed Allred’s My Buddie (Bono Jazz-Female Friend by Takin On The Cash) has entered against stakes company after two very impressive outs for trainer Mike Joiner. He was sensational in his career debut when he won by more than 4 lengths with a time of :17.30 for the 350 yards.

That maiden victory quickly established My Buddie as a horse to watch, and he lived up to high expectations with his win in his Governor’s Cup Futurity trial.

While he won by only a head and his fastest-qualifying time of :17.340 was approached by Bikers Bono and Magic Show Czech, it was the gelding’s final charge that demanded attention. He raced the final 220 yards in :09.22 for the fastest final 220-yard clocking recorded at Los Alamitos since those clockings began several years ago.

Bikers Bono (Bono Jazz-Biker Babe by Leaving Memories), owned by Chuck Treece and Jane Rosenberg, is undefeated from three starts and is also making his stakes debut. The Treece-trained gelding has moved up in class with each of his starts and successfully made the jump. He broke his maiden at first asking, took a non-winners-of-two allowance test and then won his Governor’s Cup Futurity trial by 1 length. His :17.350 time was the second-fastest and nearly matched My Buddie’s time.

The EG High Desert Farms’ Magic Show Czech (Corona Czech-Pure Magic (TB) by Magical Mile (TB)) has the stakes experience advantage with a fifth-place finish behind Carters Cartel in the $1.1-million Ed Burke Million (G1) and then got caught by My Buddie’s closing rush in their Governor’s Cup trial. His time of :17.360 was the third-fastest time.
