This Weekend at Sam Houston Race Park
HOUSTON, TX—JULY 17, 2007—Live American Quarter Horse Meeting returns to Sam Houston Race Park on Friday, July 20. The ten-race card will include trials for the $15,000-added Sam Houston Maiden Classic. Work Work Work won the 2006 edition of the stakes that ran with a total purse of $44,000. The finals of the 2007 Sam Houston Maiden Classic will take place on Saturday, August 4. Country western star Roger Creager will perform in the Verizon Wireless Concert Series following racing.
The Saturday night card will feature the $7,500-added Colors of Texas Paint & Appaloosa Stakes. Popular recording artist and native Texan, Chris Cagle will take to the Bud Light Stage on Saturday, July 21.
Sam Houston Race Park also presents a Sunday afternoon racing card at 1:30 p.m. Admission to the northwest Houston racetrack is $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for senior citizens and children 12 and under are free.
The next big racing weekend at Sam Houston Race Park for is set for Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28 when the northwest Houston racetrack hosts the annual TQHA Yearling Sale.
The racing action kicks off on Friday evening with four stakes races for the Texas Summer Showdown. The TQHA Yearling Sale will once again be a two-day affair as over 300 yearlings are set to pass through the sales ring.
The sale has produced many American Quarter Horse racing champions, including 2003 World Champion, Oak Tree Special and 2004 Sam Houston Race Park Horse of the Meet, Azoom.
The Yearling Sale will take place in the comfort of the air-conditioned Pavilion Centre on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28 starting at noon.
On Saturday night, Sam Houston Race Park will present the finals of the TQHA Sale Futurity with some of the top 2-year-olds competing for a purse of $372,662, the largest in the nine-year history of the event.
Sam Houston Race Park will also present an Equine Expo featuring a diverse array of exhibitors displaying equine merchandise, services and products. The Expo will also be open both Friday and Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
