Sam Houston Futurity(G1) Trials Set Friday HOUSTON, TX—AUGUST 21, 2007—Live American Quarter Horse racing returns to Sam Houston Race Park on Friday, August 24 with trials for the $342,500 Sam Houston Futurity (G1) beginning at 6:00 p.m. There were 85 juveniles paid into this year’s Sam Houston Futurity, including two supplements at $10,000 each, Pool and Dirt Track Date. The final purse of $342,500 is up from $316,000 in the 2006 Sam Houston Futurity.
There will be nine trials on Friday with the ten fastest qualifiers eligible to compete in the final on Friday, September 7. Several stakes winners will be represented including
Dirt Track Date, the winner of the $372,662 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG1) held on July 28. Trained by Tooter Jordan, the talented Hotdoggin filly will once again be ridden by Gaspar Garcia in the third race of the evening and is the 5-2 morning-line choice.
Pool, a colt by Shazoom, returns to action in the fourth race on Friday’s card following his victory in the $144,880 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity at Sam Houston Race Park on July 14. Manuel Garcia will ride Pool (8-5 favorite) for trainer Ricky Hinojosa.
Singer and songwriter, Randy Rogers will perform in the Verizon Wireless Concert Series following racing.
The Saturday night card will feature the finals of the $128,385 Dixie Stallion Stakes Futurity as well as trials for the Sam Houston Derby.Patrionic, a 2-year-old Game Patriot filly owned by Dennis J. Touchet and trained by Bobby Touchet, was the fastest qualifier in trials on Friday, August 10 for the Dixie Stallion Stakes Futurity.
Performances by Tracy Byrd and Zona Jones will take place on Saturday night after racing.
Sam Houston Race Park also presents a Sunday afternoon racing card at 1:30 p.m. Admission to the northwest Houston racetrack is $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for senior citizens and children 12 and under are free.
