Super Derby To Have An Estimated Purse Of $815,350

LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA—According to the latest purse development figures, the estimated purse for this year's Los Alamitos Super Derby is a stakes record $815,350. The purse development for the Super Derby shows five supplemental entries, with their owners paying a $25,000 fee per horse just to get them into the trials to be held on October 20.
The list of supplemental entries is made up of the following five horses: Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity winner Blues Girl Too, Heritage Place Derby winner Valiant Hero, Los Alamitos Winter Derby winner A Stoli Mate, Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes winner A Mere Splash and multiple local winner Another Cartel.

Los Alamitos Director of Nominations Melodie Knuchell has collected $590,350 in total fees to this year's Super Derby as of June 21, which includes the $125,000 in supplemental fees. Add to that the $200,000 in added money put up by Los Alamitos Race Course, plus the estimated trial entry fees of $25,000 (based on 25 horses entering the trials) to come up with the $815,350 figure.

Lucky Seven Ranch's Blues Girl Too has yet to race in 2007 but the Corona Cartel filly is coming off an spectacular championship year in which she won the "Deuce" plus finished second in both the Golden State Million and Ed Burke Million futurities.

In the $190,000 Grade II Heritage Place Derby, Valiant Hero, trained by Michael Joiner, won after covering the 400 yards in 19.584 seconds for the Mesa, Ariz.-based ownership group of Melinda and Henry Brown, Homer Hill and Terry Bell. Valiant Hero is a Texas-bred son of First Down Dash.
