Valiant Hero Tops Heritage Derby Qualifiers

Valiant Hero and G.R. Carter, Jr. setting the
fastest time in the Heritage Derby trials.
Photo by Dustin Orona PhotographyOKLAHOMA CITY, OK—Grade 1 winner Valiant Hero made his 2007 debut a big one Sunday evening when he roared to the fastest qualifying time in the $200,000-est. grade 1 Heritage Place Derby at Remington Park.
The son of First Down Dash made his last appearance on December 6 at Lone Star Park when he won the $1,054,000 Texas Classic Futurity(G1).

Sunday night he dueled with stakes winner and second fastest qualifier Check On Chico but drew clear at the wire in the 400 yard contest by ¾ of a length. Racing for the partnership of Melinda and Henry Brown, Homer Hill and Terry Bell the stakes winner of more than $490,000 pushed his career record to 5-2-1 from nine starts.

The brown colt was saddled by Michael Joiner for the first time, who took over training duties from the retired Jack Brooks. Regular rider, G.R. Carter, Jr. was aboard for the :19.670 second ride.

Grade 1 Dash For Cash Futurity winner Dont Let Down finished second by a neck in the third trial to the lightly raced but perfect Eyesaspecial Fashion. The Stoli gelding that has earned in excess of $415,000 including a third place finish in the All American Futurity (G1) last season was making his three-year-old debut. He was the fifth fastest qualifer.

Eyesaspecial Fashion by Eyesa Special kept her career record perfect with four wins from four starts including trial wins in the Ruidoso and All American Futurities last season.

The other multiple grade 1 stakes winner in the field First Carolina was the tenth fastest qualifier after a troubled trip. The daughter of Mr Jess Perry has earned nearly $400,000 with wins that included the Heritage Place Futurity (G1) and the Remington Park Derby (G1) on April 22. She suffered only her second defeat in seven career starts.

For a complete list of finalist, sires, dams, owners, breeders, trainers and jockeys to the June 6 final click here.

A note from me: First Carolina might have qualified higher as the #6 horse veered over into the path of the #7 and the #8 and pushed them both out about a lane or two. Maybe she'll get a better break in the final. cheering

Southern Takes All Looks To Step Up In Heritage Place Futurity

Southern Takes All comes into the Grade 1 $649,400 Heritage Place Futurity this Sunday at Remington Park with the fastest qualifying time and the most stakes experience.
Owned by James Sills the Southern Cartel gelding was winless in his first three starts but did finish fourth in the grade 1 Remington Park Futurity. He was a length off Miss Blue Chew who was winning her second futurity of the season after taking the Blue Ribbon back in March.

In the Heritage trials, Southern Takes All easily picked up his first career win with a 1-1/4 length effort and a time of :1756, the fastest for the two days of trials.

He will be saddled by Eddie Willis, who is looking for his first-ever win in the Heritage Place Futurity. Regular rider Larry Payne is expected to be aboard.

Facing Southern Takes All is the First Down Dash colt Movie Mogul owned by Willow Ridge Farms. He was fastest qualifier of the first day of trials when he raced to a 9-1 upset victory in :17.676. He won by three-quarters of a length breaking his maiden in his second start for trainer J.M. Beall Jr.

Two home-bred fillies will race for Michael and Donalda Pohl. Both are out of the their blue hen mare Dashin Follies, by Strawfly Special. She is the dam of grade 1 winner PYC Paint Your Wagon and grade 1 stakes-placed Ivory James.

Saddled by Stacy Charette, Coronita Cartel broke her maiden at first asking and then won her Heritage Place Futurity trial with the second-fastest time on the second day in :17.706 by a neck over qualifier Famous Grouse. The Corona Cartel filly is a full sister to the two aforementioned grade 1 runners.

Their other filly, Separatist Follies is a daughter of Separatist and recorded the final qualifying time on the second day of trials.

Valiant Hero Heads Deep Heritage Place Derby Field

One of the sport's hottest future stallion prospects will be looking for his second grade 1 win Sunday night when he goes to the post against an deep field of graded stakes performers in the $189,845 Heritage Place Derby on Sunday night at Remington Park.
The $500,000 sale-topping purchase at the 2005 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, Valiant Hero has won five of nine career starts and earned $492,330. The First Down Dash-Corona Chick colt scored a neck win in the Grade 1, $1 million Texas Classic Futurity to close out his juvenile season last December at Lone Star Park.

Mike Joiner took over the colt's training in March from the recently retired Jack Brooks. Under Joiner Valiant Hero returned in his seasonal debut in the Heritage Place Derby trials with a three-quarter length victory in :19.670 for 400 yards, the fastest time from five trials.

Racing for Joe Kirk Fulton, Eyesaspecial Fashion is undefeated in four starts. The Eyesa Special colt trained by James Lackey is making his stakes debut after battling to a head win in his trial over grade 1 winner Dont Let Down. Eyesaspecial Fashion was timed in :19.850 while Bobby Cox’s Dont Let Down raced to a :19.865 time.

Dont Let Down, a Stoli gelding trained by John Buchanan, is stakes tested at the highest level and should step forward off of his trial race. He returned from a winter’s rest to race to the close second behind Eyesaspecial Fashion.

Last season, he was a contender for championship honors after winning the Grade 1 Dash For Cash Futurity and third place efforts in the All American Futurity (G1) and the Heritage Place Futurity(G1). In that futurity he was just a nose behind winner First Carolina, who also qualified for the Heritage Place Derby.

First Carolina is a Mr Jess Perry filly owned by Weetona Stanley and William Smith. She suffered her first Remington Park loss in the Heritage Place Derby trials when she finished third, beaten a head, at 1-20 odds. She won last season's Heritage Place Futurity and came back this year to win the Grade 2 Remington Park Derby for trainer Heath Taylor.

Southern Takes All Wins Heritage Place Futurity in Track Record Time

Southern Takes All and Larry Payne set a new track record in Heritage Place final.

—June 3, 2007—The Grade 1, $649,400 Heritage Place Futurity, the richest race in Oklahoma this year, was won by Southern Takes All on Sunday at Remington Park.

The futurity was the featured event of seven stakes races on the final night of the American Quarter Horse/Mixed Breed Season at Remington Park. Also contested were the Remington Park Championship and Heritage Place Derby among others.

Owned by James Sills of Cedar Hill, Texas and conditioned by the meet’s leading trainer Eddie Willis, Southern Takes All launched from the starting gate under Larry Payne and never looked back. The win in the big race for 2-year-olds was the second straight for Southern Takes All after he finished fourth earlier this season in the Remington Park Futurity.

“The first couple of outs this year, he just didn’t perform well,” Payne noted, as the only rider to climb aboard Southern Takes All in a race. “Now he has come into himself. He is going to be a good one.”

Southern Takes All not only won the Heritage Place Futurity, he also set a new track record for the 350-yard distance, crossing the finish in :17.384. That breaks the mark of :17.45 set just 10 days ago on May 24 by First Signing.

The second win from five career starts for Southern Takes All was worth $270,800. A New Mexico-bred gelding by Southern Cartel from the This Snow Is Royal mare Shes Takes All, Southern Takes All has now made $315,245.

Southern Takes All finished 1-1/4 lengths ahead of Zoominatchya with Furrtreeous another three-quarters of a length behind in third. Robert and Cristal Sherrill's own the Shazoom filly while Richard Joneson races the Oak Tree Special colt.

Away as the even-money wagering favorite, Southern Takes All paid $4.20 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.80 to show. Zoominatchya paid $8.60 to place and $2.80 to show. Furrtreeous returned $3.80 to show.

Completing the field were Jessthelouisianagirl; Famous Grouse; Ima Stone Candy; Separatist Follies; Coronita Cartel; Movie Mogul; and Passion Raging On. yeah

Hi Kidd: No, I didn't hear or see anything but I hope she's ok. Sure would be awful if we don't see her run any more. Seems like her twin, First Prize Robin has disappeared as I haven't seen anything on her in quite a while.

I like the derbies and futurities too, sure was a lot of good racing this weekend. I think I got all the results and articles posted but let me know if you find I missed something. Very Happy Stallionesearch certainly deserves kudos for getting it all posted quickly so I can steal it......heehee Very Happy
