Who is showing this weekend? Im not showing so Im jealous!

Since Vegas is in training I have to pick and choose my shows VERY carefully. I wish I could do it like I did last year. I was at a show darn near EVERY weekend. I was hitting 4 different shows a month. I will probably go and watch, to help feed my need to show, but thats just going to make it worse Crying or Very sad.

My daughter is showing with her middle school equestrian team at a show this weekend. They will show against all the other schools in the county. We took our horse to his first show last weekend since we bought him last October a nd although he handled it better than we expected, I'm not sure if he is what I would call competitive yet! I'd say it will take a few more shows before they work out all the kinks-it's hard with a new horse. He has to do a trail class and a beginning reining class in addition to pleasure and horsemanship and showmanship. We are getting ready to go outside and practice the trail pattern right now. Honestly, we have never sidepassed him before. Wish us luck!!

We'll be showing in FL this weekend. They usually have decent numbers. Many people from neighboring states will be hauling in. A trainer friend from LA and his from TX are coming to finish qualifying a few horses.

It is Cinco De Mayo on Saturday.... hopefully they can get their horses shown on Sunday drunken

Cantjog, whew, that's a long way to haul! Good luck this weekend!

What do you use/do to control fear, etc. before showing? Now, I realize you'll have to think back a lot of years here...Very Happy ... but thought you might offer some advice.

Thank you very much!!! We are looking forward to it Very Happy

Hmmmm... breathing deep helps to calm fears before a class. I get REALLY nervous in the warm up watching everyone else Sad I forget who said it, but they said to me "If you feel like you have fully prepared, there is no reason to doubt yourself or your horse". Looking back, this has kind of rang true every time. Chit chatting with others before the class can help unwind nerves. Maybe most importantly, time is a factor. The longer you have been showing, the less your nerves get to ya? But then again, some anxiety is healthy... keeps you on your toes Cool

This is sort of ambiguous, but maybe someone can take something from it, LOL!

Oh, I agree. But the chit chatting, huh-uh, not at quarter shows I won't... In fact, I give Rick the look, that means hold everybody at bay till I get through, then I can talkie all I want. Open shows, no biggy, but quarter shows, course that was Kid, I won't need my focus as much with the younger ones, because I've already done my homework on the attitude part, but you're right... to not be a bit nervous, pick up that adrenalin where you'll do your best job, SURE DOES HELP!

And you'll never make me believe you get nervous anymore! You've probably been showing more than all of us on a continuing basis!

Let us know how you do this weekend! I wish you all the luck!

And, you know what... I keep forgetting to tell you this. Remember that picture you used to post on the quarter forum with inches difference in the... well, you know what I'm talking about... anyhoo, Trent was on the horse judging team, and I told him about that picture. I had saved it because I knew Trent was having trouble with HUS (I promise that's all I saved it for)! Uh, my dear, do you know he aced that part of it because of that one little ole' picture! Now, if he could ever just get WP... I sure can't help him with that! Don't even want to try!

My 1st show isn't until the last weekend in May. But I can't wait! cheers Hopefully a week & a half is enough time to get Clara and myself back in shape!

Here's what she looked like back in January:

And believe me, it's only gotten worse! Her mane is CRAZY right now. haha. I'd say she needs just a little cleaning up before I take her out to a show! lol!
