I finally got my replacement from Canada! Well, I picked him out anyways. I decided to go with something that had an extremely proven background, and I'd say that I definetly got that. This colt has a gorgeous face and will tear things up in lounge line and in hand trail, later he should be phenomenal for western pleasure... This might not be his actual name, but I needed to use something to get the link Smile I am super excited, he is in the incentive fund and the NAERIC advantage program (I also didn't know this, but Scotch is in the NAERIC program too), and even if I go to a show with him and place 1st with no other horses in the class, I get $50 for first, and get paid down to third place... They also match dollar for dollar every incentive fund point value I will get on this colt. He is much more set than Scotch was and I got a super deal on him because of the issue with Scotch. We are selling two fillies we have right now and thinking of keeping Scotch because of the NAERIC program, I mean, it will atleast pay for my show fees! I will send everyone updated pictures throughout summer, he will be shipped down in September probably

Out of curiosity, where up here are you getting him from? Is it from a family named Little? I have quite a few NAERIC horses, which to those who don't know, is an incentive fund available only to PMU producers foals. It really does help pay expenses. Do shows still need to get sanctioned? I'd look into it, just in case.

I forgot to add that he is really cute. I know some people with horses by Impulsions By Mail, they really like them. One lady went grand with her yearling, as he's super correct. Now he's coming 3 and looks great. I also know some people with Mr Te Rosebud babies. They do real well at the AQHA shows up here. If it is the family I'm thinking of, they are less than a half hour drive from my place. I drool at their babies when we drive past.

Yes, it is the Little family Smile I have been a client of their for about four years now. They are WONDERFUL people, they take excellent care of their horses and do not breed anything but quality horses that will either show or work. Their mares are impecably bred and their stallions are all very nice too.

I think this foal and I will do very well together. I'm very familiar with how his siblings have done, his full sister is going to start her career under saddle next year at the futurities and the Impulsions By Mail foals have been earning a rediculous amount of money at the futurities the last two years. I am actually considering taking him up there next year for one of his eligible futurities, but that's a ways away Smile Thank you very much by the way, I like him a lot.

The shows for NAERIC program still do need to be santioned, but there is a gentlemen down here that works directly with them and he get all of our AZ shows approved so I don't even have to mess with it! Talk about convienent. Even if I did have to do it myself though, it's as simple as filling out a form.

Nice looking little guy....I hope you have better luck with your PMU baby than I did. Four years ago my daughter and I "adopted" 3 babies, thinking that we were saving lives. Cost us about $3,000.00...They were shipped to Kennedy, Sask. All had upper resp infections when we picked them up in Calif.... One colt died of a heart attack when he was just over a year old....His half-sister died last fall of a heart attack. Foal #3 seems to be fine, but never hit 14 hands.

The more you understand the breeders in the business, you will know who to buy from. I know of two EXTREMELY reliable breeders who take excellent care of the mare and foals. Actually, the people we buy the foals from are the ones who ship them down, they drive their own rig down here to ensure the foals safe delivery and keep updated on where there are outbreaks of flu, strangles, etc. They will drive 10 hours out of the way to avoid a red zone (they did this last year.) and they only drive so many hours, then rest, etc. I had my very first foal come down with shipping fever, but I've learned to keep penicilin on hand. It's nothing about the conditions, it's just the stress Sad But, if you catch it quick (I will do rounds no matter if they show signs or not) it wont develop into the URI. I sure am sorry to hear about your experience.... That is just a shame. It's places like that that give the PMU industry a horrible name. I do promise you though, that not all of them are that way, just a lot of them are horrific to deal with. I've personally bought four from her, and some family members and friends have bought a lot more... Sorry again about your horses, that is just unfortunate.

I have had LOTS of PMU horses. Vamp, Tom, Trouble, Bo, just to name a few of the ones we currently have. The PMU breeders now have super breeding programs. They have sons of such horses as Smart Little Lena, Zippo Pine Bar, Playgun, Invitation Only, Zips Chocolate Chip, the list goes on and on. What Ragdoll probably ended up with are "rescues". There are 2 kinds of PMU people. Horse breeders and pi$$ farmers. The breeders make a huge effort to not only have super conformed horses, but they have the best quality feed around. After all, if you have up to 100 horses in a barn, you don't want any more dust than you absolutely have to. We have futurities up here that are dominated by PMU produced colts, or get of PMU animals. The general thought on these horses is that they are of lesser quality, but thats a pile of propaganda.
Wade and his dad used to have a PMU farm, but they took a payout on his contract, like most guys around here. I have been in lots of PMU barns and were impressed with the quality of most of the mares on most of the farms. One of my old teachers had a PMU and I did some work for him. He explained to me that if you want a mare to still be sound after 6 years on the line, she'd better be built right. These mares have regular turnout, a super deworming program, all the water and high quality hay they can eat. In exchange, they have a tie stall that they can lay down in, with a stall mat and lots of straw, all they have to do is wear a "boot" that collects their urine. It is suspended from the top of the stall by rubber hosing and pulleys so that it stays put while they lay down and get up again.
Sorry I went on a rant, I didn't mean to get on my soapbox.
I really like the horses I see come out of Greg and Faye's place. They do super well at shows and seem to have great dospositions. So they deliver him themselves? Too bad you weren't coming up to get him, we could go trail riding. If you do decide to ever come up here to show, we'll have to get together.

Question Question Your shipping a wealing from Canada To AZ Question Question

Dang, thats alot of stress for a weanling! Can you send them Supplements to get them started on before they get on the trailor? That is sooo much stress for a baby. Suspect

Have another question??? How much will the cost to be to get him here????

They will drive 10 hours out of the way to avoid a red zone

Nice thought but, an added 10 hours on the trip for a WEANLING, by time you pay for shipping are you really getting the bang for your bucks? And does he have both down, now? My Colt did at 60 days. Just some thoughts going threw my mind here, if I were in your shoes. Thats all..

Since I Dont know anything about this, PMU thing, the points your were talking about, I assume, this means, AQHA points since they refer to the Incentive fund. Correct?

We got our babies through FANI. Knowing what I do about the process, I wouldn't do it again. There's no part of the process I can support. Everyone has to look into their heart. There are way too many horses in the world right now. I sure wouldn't want to see one of my mares in a PMU farm. JMO.

He is a cute LIL booger.. king You mentioned you had been a client of their's for about 4 years.. How come we haven't heard about the other horses you were buying from them and where the heck are the pictures scratch lol!

Someone I know sold a mare and the new owners shipped her the day after the foal was born from SW Washington all the way to Dellaware.. EEEKKKKKKKKK... I hope they made it OK.. Twisted Evil

We hauled a weanling 16 hours from here to CA.. He did just fine. But, he was healthier then most horses at his age. Took him a bit to get his land legs back.. Then he had an upset tummy that was delt with right away with some Eqa-Spaz and he became a great LIL traveler. He then traveled back up here, back to CA, then back up to Northern Wash and back to CA.. A month later all the way back to the World show and back to CA.. LIL Stinker actually grew when he was on the road and traveled better then I do.. lol! This was my Sir Cool Skip colt and he was NH to boot.. Not a single problem.

You never know how big a baby will grow.. It depends a great deal on how they are fed as babies.. And, even that will not gaurantee you get a full size horse. A good example of that is some Cool Skip bred mares will just have a short one now and them. Bred to the nines and just does not get very tall. I just sold one. She was the prettiest mare and not more them 14.2. Still a nice bull dog body.. She just needed some high heels.. lol! Perfect for a rider that does not want something real tall, wants them pretty and needs to have bulk to pack their big butt around.. LOL. She would have been just right for me if I wanted to ride again.. riding

You just have to do the best you can do and hope for the best.. pray

The NAERIC incentive used to match dolar for dollar money won at open shows and such. They've changed it a bit, now you can get matching payout to the AQHA IF too.

Ragdol, unfortunately, that would explain it right there... Fani is known for not checking the places those foals come out of. Just like there is a difference between going to a back yard breeders house where there are crap babies running everywhere and the horses look like crap, then going to a super nice breeding facility where the horses look amazing and you can tell thought went into breeding each cross. That is how it can work w/ PMU foals. Trust me, if Greg & Faye kept their horses in poor condition, those mares (who we get pictures of too throughout the year) and babies would not look the way they do.

Yeah, TJ, I am. I've done it with a filly I had by the name of Solanos R Red Dee, that filly was in a freak accident last year and passed away, but I never had a problem with her coming down. Not last year, but the year before, I had on my own Scotch and another filly by the name of UR A Hollywood Star (REININGCHIK owns her now and she has turned out to be SUPER). My uncle had a horse brought down on a seperate late load that year named Redneck Chickory, never had a problem w/ him either. Another lady I've trained some horses for has a handful of 1/2 sisters to Scotch that she loves. None of us have ever had a problem w/ them coming down. These foals are super healthy too, they are on a great pasture, hay, and mineral diet.

The shipping, because so many people buy from AZ, cost right around $300.00 per horse. As far as the two testes being down, understand please, Scotch HAD both down at one time too. They all get checked before they come down and most, if not all, are already halter broke.

The points are the AQHA incentive fund you get (they also work w/ other breed incentive funds too though) for each point you get, they will match the dollar amount of that point.

At open shows they keep track by having the show secretary fill out a form. You have to bring your form showing proof that you indeed have a NAERIC horse. These can be printed off the Naeric site. Brennen had a problem where they spelled Tom and Tye's registered names incorrectly and didn't want to pay him. It was their mistake, as most breeders send them copies of the papers when they enter them. So for us, we had the reg #, birthdate, breeder, color and markings all correct, but they raised a fuss cause the name was spelled different. Took alot to get the suckers to fix it.
