Eyesa Candy Maker Breaks 24 Year Old Track Record in Trials
SALLISAW, OK—SEPTEMBER 15, 2007—Carl Pevehouse's Eyesa Candy Maker was an impressive 1-3/4 length winner in the eighth of 11 trials run Saturday for the Black Gold 330 Yard Futurity at Blue Ribbon Downs.
The home-bred Eyesa Special filly covered the 330 yards in :16.568 seconds to break a 24-year-old track record set on November 25, 1983 by Honeymoon Suite. The previous mark was :16.580.
Saddled by Stacy Charette-Hill and ridden by Roy Baldillez, Eyesa Candy Maker earned a speed-index of 108 and the fastest qualifying time to the September 30th final for her effort.
Eyesa Candy Maker picked up her second win in five starts this season. She came in to the trials off a seventh place finish in the Speedhorse Gold and Silver Cup Futurity(RG1) on July 28.
Hill also saddled the seventh qualifier Quickid Corona for the Quickid Corona Partners. The Corona Cartel gelding won the seventh trial by two-lengths.
It took a speed index of 100 or higher to make the top ten list on Saturday.
First Dash Baby, an Okey Dokey Dale filly bred and owned by Kendrix Brothers was a daylight winner in the ninth trial to post the second best clocking. Trained by Eddie D. Willis and ridden by Larry Payne, the filly went :16.607 seconds for a 107 speed index.
Willis and Payne also teamed up for the sixth qualifying time with Cartel Lady, a Southern Cartel filly owned and bred by Bill Price.
