Genuine American Impresses With Ruidoso Feature Victory
RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 11, 2007—Genuine American impressively raced to his fourth straight win and showed he could be ready to take another step up in class with his win in the featured ninth race on Saturday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.
Ridden by Oscar Hernandez, Genuine American got off to a lackluster start, but midway through the 350-yard dash made amends with an eye-catching acceleration that took him to an expanding 1/2-length victory over Little Bit Of Ah Ha. Captain Nuevo finished third in the full field of older horses.
The Carl Draper-trained Genuine American raced the 350 yards in :17.485.
Genuine American lost his career debut, but has now won his four subsequent starts. The 3-year-old Genuine Strawfly gelding impressed in his previous start when he hung on to win the New Mexico Breeders Championship. That win combined with his late-running score in Saturday’s feature makes him a horse to watch, especially against New Mexico-bred company.
Genuine American rewarded his many backers as the strong favorite with $3.40, $3.00 and $2.80. Little Bit Of Ah ha returned $3.60 and $3.40 while Capitan Nuevo paid $6.40.
