FAVORITE POOL TAKES TQHA SIRES' CUP FUTURITY
July 16, 2007 – Fourth-fastest qualifier and 4-5 favorite Pool dueled early and drove to a head victory in the $144,880 TQHA Sires Cup Futurity (RG2). Ridden by Manuel Garcia for the Rio Grande City, Texas-based Legacy Partnership and trainer Ricardo Hinojosa, the Shazoom colt went 350 yards in :17.602 and recorded his second stakes win.
“He ran really well,” said Garcia, who also rode Pool to a victory in the May 19 Ford Texas Juvenile Challenge (G3) at Retama Park. “He was a little bit slow in the state and in the back, but he caught up real well.”
Bred by Kent Kleinknecht of Los Angeles, Pool is one of three winners from five starters foaled by the Grade 3-winning Dashing Val mare Scared. All told, the colt has won five of six races, and the $57,952 winner’s share of the TQHA Sires Cup Futurity increased his earnings to $133,563.
Panther Purr, Gettin The Cash, Defining Difference, fastest qualifier Tri Shake Em, Wowzer Won, Stolia Del Rey, Stol The Day, Shes Catty and Landon Southern Jr completed the order of finish.
