FAST STATS FOR EACH OF THE 14 ED BURKE TRIALS



TRIAL 1: Shez Snow Quick is the most experienced runner in all 14 trials with four previous starts. She is also one of only two runners (along with Illegal Velocity in the 10th trial) to have run outside of Los Alamitos Race Course.



TRIAL 2: Jockey Alejandro Luna and trainer Jaime Gomez, the connections of Kindergarten Futurity winner Carters Cartel, have teamed up to win 22 races in 127 starts (17 percent) in the last year.



TRIAL 3: Wicked Royal Cartel is one of three runners in the Ed Burke trials who have more than one victory. The others are Carters Cartel (2nd trial) and Copa King (12th trial).



TRIAL 4: In the last year jockey G.R. Carter and trainer Mike Joiner have teamed up to win 22 races in 122 starts (18 percent).



TRIAL 5: Catchmeonthebackside and Masters Call were the two highest purchases at the 2006 Los Alamitos Equine Sale and cost a combined $785,000.



TRIAL 6: In the last year trainer John Bassett has won 23 races. Jockey Saul Ramirez, Jr., has ridden 22 of the winners. Together they are 22 of 161 (14 percent) in the last year.



TRIAL 7: Jockeys Cody Jensen and Ramon Sanchez will ride in all 14 trials with each of their mounts trained by Paul Jones. In the last year Jensen and Jones have won 113 out 526 races (21 percent), and Sanchez and Jones have won 48 out of 262 races (18 percent).



TRIAL 8: Ever Fire Burns Sa is the only previous winner in the field, having won his lone start. The rest of the field is a combined 0 for 8.



TRIAL 9: Jaime Gomez is 40 for 85 (47 percent) with favorites in the last year.



TRIAL 10: Illegal Velocity is the only runner in the Ed Burke trials who has never raced at Los Alamitos Race Course. His previous starts were at the Graham County Fair in Safford, Ariz., and the Cochise County Fair in Douglas, Ariz.



TRIAL 11: Jockey Carlos Bautista will ride all four of trainer Juan Aleman's entrants in the Ed Burke trials. Bautista and Aleman have five wins in 23 starts (22 percent) in the last year.



TRIAL 12: Sam Thompson has ridden 153 runners for trainer Donna McArthur in the last year. They have won with 20 of them (13 percent).



TRIAL 13: In the last year trainer Paul Jones is 135 for 317 (43 percent) with favorites.



TRIAL 14: Out of trainer Joe Bassett's 13 wins in the last year, 11 have been ridden by Saul Ramirez, Jr. They are 11 for 52 (21 percent).

***Masters Call and Catchmeonthebackside didn't fair so well as they only ran 87 speed indexes and did not qualify to the finals.

***Michael Joiner must have tied his shoes wrong or something, he got beat by a NOSE in trial 4 ONLY to come back in trial 5 and get beat by a NOSE again!!! He did manage to get Tailgunner Tom qualified...no such luck with Catchmeonthebackside!
