PostSubject: Dash Died   Dash Died Icon_minitimeMay 25th 2007, 4:30 pm

I've been trying to put this on for 2 weeks, but everytime I push send, it deletes and asks for my sign in info all over again, but here goes.
Dash was our grey 2 year old running bred. You might remember him as the horse that Brennen had started that bucked me off. As a weanling, Dash ran into a deadfall log and impaled himself through his chest, just left of center. The branch exited at the top of his shoulder blade. This wasnt a small stick, it was quite large. The first words out of the vet's mouth were "Oh my god, I can't believe he's still alive". Not only did he live through it, but he ended up completely sound and if you didn't know where the wound was, you'd have a hard time to find it.
Then as a yearling, he cut his face, leaving a little bump on a face that wasn't so pretty to begin with.
Then, 2 weeks ago Saturday, Brennen and I went out to check on the yearlings and geldings, only to see Dash standing by himself on the other side of the pasture than the others. He had went through our electric fence and cut his left hind leg, just above his pastern. His tendons were severed and you could see at least 3 inches of cannon bone. He was walking with his hoof and fetlock dragging backwards. I couldn't get his leg to bend back to normal position. It was decided that even with surgery, it wasn't likely that he'd recover, so he was put down.
Dash had a head only a mother could love, but man was his body starting to look nice. He had a great temperment and was easy to train. Brennen has him so quiet that he could stand up on the saddle to change light bulbs in the barn. Not very safe, I know. Dash was also quite decently bred. His sire is a son of White Tie, by Beduino. I'm not positive on his speed index, but I was told it was either in the high 90's or low 100's. His dam is by Hava Treat, a Dash For Cash bred stallion that was high point Canadian running horse. He was bred to run and was our barrel prospect. This has upset poor Brennen more than he'll say. I have offered to find him a replacement, but he is fine with his yearling, who he is now very overprotective of.
Poor Dash, he had such a hard life for a horse so young. we miss hm alot.

You are in my thoughts, as well as Brennen and dash.......

oh my goodness I so feel for you.... I had one like that every time you turned around she was hurt a trainer summed it up for me like this- the really great ones are the ones you have to work the hardest to keep them alive because they are into everything they are so curious... and even then all the odds are against you... at 4 she was struck by lightening and killed- their time may be short but they really touch our hearts... once again I am so sorry I am sure he will never be forgotten in your hearts...

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. From what I remember, he was a whale of a horse, and I know he'll be missed.

Thanks for your support. Because Wade and is family have the "oh well, there's always another one" attitude, grieving for him has been hard on Brennen and I. Thank goodness TwoEyedChelly lives close and understands. The day it happened I called her, and she came straight over to be with me. What would we do without friends?
