CLAIMING FUTURITY?

I thought this was pretty cool! They are going to have a TQHA Claiming
Futurity this year at Sam Houston Race Park.
It is open to all AQHA foals of 2005, but you can claim horses for $7,500
in the trials. Then in the finals you can't claim them. It is
$20,000 added plus $200 nomination fee and $500 entry fee, so that's an
extra $700 dollars per horse. So if it gets like 50 horses, it would be
$55,000. I think it's a pretty good idea, what do y'all think?

I talked to Rob Werstler about it on Tuesday and I'm pretty excited about it...I think it is going to be an interesting group of horses!!!

I'm not sure it is going to have the desired effect but it should be pretty interesting none the less!

I want to see what kind of horses go in it too. And how many claims there'll be.

Honestly - how tempting is that - claim a horse you think will win its trial heat - and you're automatically in a final that could pay for the horse and then some!!!

I'm betting there are a lot of sub-par horses in...AND I'd be watching those claims REALLY CLOSELY! Just for good measure...

I dunno - I was thinkin bout puting my 2yo in...he worked out at Valhalla this morning though and got his gate card...he's coming on pretty well...now not sure I want to drop him in we'll see!!!

I wonder if it will be all cheap horses? Will someone try to put a decent horse in and risk losing it or have a lot of protective claims to keep it? It should be interesting indeed.

I dunno - I'm excited though - I like new ideas!!!

I dunno though, how many owners are really going to invest $700 in a $7500 claimer that is really probably more of a $5000 claimer?

I can see some first time starters doing pretty well and sneaking in... It should up the claiming numbers though...

Safety claims will be crazy though...I dunno...I bet they watch those CLOSE - They SHOULD!!! If a horse is a claimer it should be a claimer...safety claims rub me the wrong way!!!
