| I'm going to add pictures to this thread here today as soon as my battery in my camera is charged. I just wanted to kind of give a little update though. Momma and baby are absolute dolls, I wasn't sure what we were going to find yesterday because they were priced so darn cheap, but the guy basically just said he didn't want to feed them anymore, didn't have the time to break out the mare, and was moving to North Dakota this fall. The mare, IMO, is really sweet, but kind of shy right now. She's been a little hard to catch but she's already making improvements with that and she's only been here since yesterday. Her deal is, she's seven years old of a ranch in Minnesota(SP) and although she's been gentled, can walk in a halter and load in a trailer, she doesn't have experience with the everyday things like bathing, clipping, feet, and ground work. Well, that's already changing too, because yesterday she got her first bath and did pretty well with it actually. The colt is the most M-A-S-S-I-V-E three week old colt I've ever seen in my life, he's got height AND he's already filled out I mean, his momma isn't a small horse, she's a good 15 / 15.1 and he doesn't even come CLOSE to walking under her. He's mr. curious too, let me tell ya, he wants to know what everything is, which is good because I want all my horses like that. I love his color, and I'm actually a little excited about owning a paint tobiano. I'm already looking at some open futurities this fall to put him in. I've got BIG plans for the BIG colt. And right now, I have the funding to show on two breed circuits, as long as I'm just showing three or less horses. Anyways, I wanted to post the pedigrees and see what you all thought. I'll give some info on the paint side, just incase. Docs Sassy Cady(MARE): http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/docs+sassy+cadyColt's Sire (LB Mystics LastChance): http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/lb+mystics+last+chanceNow, on the colt's sire's side, I did some research through APHA and this is what I came up with, just for the horses that will be on the colt's papers. -LH Roseanne Bar: 100+ Ride America Hours -Gallant Move: 5 ROMs, Superior in Halter and Racing, 5 Ammy. Performance Points -Lucky Dee Bar: 5 Open Halter Points -Im Ann Oakie: 23 Open Western Pleasure Points, 6 Ammy. WP. Points. I'm off to look up the show records on Sassy's pedigree. I would love for any info anyone can give as to horses in their pedigrees (Sorry I didn't get these up yesterday, but my exams ran longer than I thought and Sassy got her feet squared away last night too, I tell ya, being the neighbor to a haul in farrier business is the BEST!. Comments are more than welcome, as long as they're constructive and not mean ;o) It looks like Sassy (the mare) isn't under herself in any of the pictures, but it's just the way she was standing waiting for Wade to pick her feet up. None of them are really great pictures of her though, she does have great feet, very nice front and rear ends, and is really structurally correct. Keep in mind too, I've only had them for going on three days, I haven't had a chance to do any fitting with her yet.) This is Wrangler, or Hez So Classy: This is Sassy and Wrangler:

| Sweeett... I see Sonny's Luckychance on the bottom side of the sire! I had an own daughter of him, and by gosh, that was one whale of a mare! I haltered her, did trail, just everything. But she did not like those horse eating bathtubs... I'm telling ya! I went miles and miles with that mare! Sonny's Luckychance was a versatility champion. If you'll get you an APHA magazine, you'll see him still posted in the back! As far as I'm concerned, he's one of the greats! A trainer down here in Texas roped off of him, and made him a superior in roping. Whale of a horse! Can't say enough good things about him! Top side of the sire, I don't have a clue. | |

| I'm tellin' ya, this little colt is destined for GREAT things. Almost every stallion AND mare in his pedigree are proven, so it's not just one of those great stallions-only pedigrees. I want to count up and see how many points, ROMs, and superiors combined will be in his immediate pedigree (on his papers). The sire's top side is a mixture of quarter horse, thoroughbred, and paint, and wowza, I mean, Gallant Move who is the colt's great grandsire has superiors in racing and halter, not to mention 5 ROMs that I know include HUS, WP, trail, etc. He's was a whale of a horse too, thanks for the information about Sonnys Lucky Chance Shiela, I knew the name sounded real familiar, but I couldn't figure out where it was coming from, I'll look him up in the journal though, I've got a bunch laying around. My camera batteries are charged, but the photo shoot will have to wait until I go take two exams YAY! not. Exams bite. I'm just so danged excited about this pair, I don't care about them lol. I think you might like the mare though Shiela, I'll get pics as soon as I get home. | |

| I'm like 99% sure he is tobiano, Merikle might have to explain it to me too lol. I'm going out to look at his sire next weekend, I guess he's 17hh and puts height and color on all of his colts. | |

| That colt is a tobiano. NOT tovero. The smoothness of the lines often state they are tobiano's, but also his pattern alone says he is tobiano. He also has a couple ink spots, which is a tobiano characteristic. His sire is a tovero (Lynn is correct in what it is) = a Horse carrying and showing atleast ONE of the overo patterns, as well as carrying and showing Tobaino. But may I say..... He is GORGEOUS!!!! love him, and love the mare! What a good deal!!! The sire has Gallant move, and Gallant Ghost in his pedigree (very nice), And just off the papers, Tinky's Spook (exceptional sire!), On your colts sires dams side, there is Mister J. Bar (who again, was an exceptional sire!!), a very nice pedigree on daddy's side, coming from good lines! I could pull up all the records for you if you'd like | |

The only exceptiong to what Lynn has said, is if the sire has been tested, and came out negative. Very few QH mares carry OWLS, as very few carry the overo pattern (which is almost always hidden). If not, just to be safe (if he will be kept intact) Get him tested

| Yea, this colt carries absolutely no Tovero markings at all, I know you can't really make it out in the picture, but his tail is actually growing out white at the bottom, which would have been the only tovero trait possible (they usually have solid colored tails.). I know the sire has never produced a lethal white baby, I'm not sure if he has been tested for OWLS or not though, I will find out. How does all of that work? Because I do infact plan on keeping him intact. Remember here, I'm not a paint person ;o) | |

| funny Gunner is a classic tovero and he has a tri colored tail... never heard they had a solid tail..... I was told by the APHA that Gunner is a perfect example of a tovero getting his overo gene from his AQHA momma which they said is where a lot of these colts get the gene as his father is a homo tobi and was told he should definately be OWLS tested... by the genetic specialist... if you have questions I would call them they are really helpful... I would have thought that an aqha mare would not produce a tobi... but in reading back on the apha page he does seem to fall into the tobi category with the facial markings... | |

My tovero colt has 2 different colors in his tail too... But my stud, well he's practically all white, so his tail is one color unless he rolls in the mud! LOL

| On the OWLS, both parents HAVE to carry it - it takes two to tango. So if you've got a negative OWLS on one of 'em, you should be okay. Lynn, I'm totally confused... they told you that quarter mares can produce tobies? That's a new one on me. I'm on my first cup of coffee, so I may be totally messed up again... imagine that! | |

Lynn, I'm totally confused... they told you that quarter mares can produce tobies? That's a new one on me. I'm on my first cup of coffee, so I may be totally messed up again... imagine that! You need 2 OWLS genes to make a lethal white, but you only need one to pass it on. Then if this foals sire had OWLS, the foal could have owls, it means nothing if he's going to be a gelding, but if he is going to a stud, you want him tested so you are not breeding him to OWLS mares who can then produce a lethal white. AQHA horses are only prone to carry overo genes, not tobiano, if they have tobiano, they wouldnt have been able to register them AQHA before they changed the rule. While breeding stock APHA horses you must be more worried about, I have never seen a regular looking AQHA mare be tested for OWLS. They have to show their overo pattern in some way shape or form, ie one little body spot, high stockings on legs, excessive facial white etc.

| Lynn, isn't that what I said? That a quarter mare can only have the overo - not tobiano... anyhoos, I agree with you. Merikle, I was told by a person who does surgeries on lethal whites, trying to save them - had one of mine sent there, that it takes two to tango... but that's been some years back... have they determined otherwise now? Also, my paint stud was a chestnut roan, and his tail was double-colored and any sorrel mare I bred him to, they came out roan, red and white tail and mane. Speaking of all of this... have you guys seen that T-bred stud that has real high white that's registered as a paint, too? I can't remember his name, but he is an awesome sucker! A straight crop-out. | |
