| Well, about a month ago I was introduced to a method of hoof care by Pete Ramey, who specializes in natural hoof care and it has worked very well for our horses. Lady has gone from being ready to put down, to really getting good feet under her. We had one bad spot left on her right front, new sole had grown over it, but we still new there was something going on under there. Had our really good friend and hoof specialist out today and he gave us some advice on where her hoof needed to be opened up, and he was dead on. We perried out a section of her hoof, and what was under it was horrible, it was all puss and blood, and just really foul. The good news, is that by exposing the site to oxygen and medicating it, she will go sound when new sole grows over this spot. Just thought I would snap a couple of pics to show you guys what I hope none of your horses ever has to go through. We cleaned this up, applied a pressure bandage for the night, vet-wrapped it, and put it in a medicine boot, I'll be changing this daily until she grows enough tissue to walk without a bandage. Forwarning, it's pretty gross This is the spot that was under the top layer of sole, the sole always looked weaker and not as healthy as the other side of her foot. This is the same spot after we had knifed it out some to expose it to more oxygen and to be able to treat it better. We were told we would hit blood, so we were expecting it. She's a brave girl and was actually moving around better than I expected. I still can't believe people allow this type of thing to happen, makes me sick. | |

| It was definetly deep for her, about 1/4 inche under ok sole. But yes, it just wasnt healing and the topical medications I was treating her with couldn't penetrate her tough sole. But, now that its to where I can treat it, this is her last one and very likely the spot that had caused the whole infection to start with... I hope she starts to feel better soon too, thanks so much... | |

| Get ahold of a product called SOLE PACK! Its a mircle worker! Pack the hole with cotton and Iodine, put on sole pack and wrap it, you'll be surprized how fast she recovers. | |

| TJ, that's my favorite hoof product! I have had GREAT success with it and it's always in our tack room :-) That's what we started using on her after everything our vet was asking us to use seemed to make her worse :-/ That was when we pulled her shoes and started using the sole pack, been better and better ever since! | |

| YUCK! Anybody ever tried the always worked - soaking in epsom salt, and then after drying, get a baby diaper, coat the living snot out of the foot with Kopertox, and duct tape a baby diaper on it? Works every time.
And people wonder why I have baby diapers down at the barn... well, it ain't for me! HA! | |

| Actually, we started out using the diapers and Kopertox, it dried up most of her abcesses, pulled the poison out, but this one was leading right to her coffin bone, and it didn't get it. It's drying up really good, she's walking out a lot better too thank goodness. If we do use the Kopertox, I always have to have someone else do it, I have a weird allergic reaction to it. | |
