| I have to vent! My mare is off getting bred and I get a call that she is enroute to vet on Sat night because she cut her shoulder open and needed about 6 or 7 stitches. Okay, I'm upset, but I guess she'll survive. I tell her while she is there for the to do an ultrasound to see were we stand, etc.... they should be breeding her as of today. GREAT! Then I get my vet bill for almost $400!!!!!! 6 stitches and and unltrasound!!!! GEESH!!! | |

| I have had the breeders just call the vet and never even mention it to me. Really makes me mad.. I know you want them taken care of. However, they should contact you first.. Ragdoll. You are getting ripped off if you pay that much for an ultra sound.. | |

| Unfortunately, all vet care here is a rip-off. A good portion of this community work in the gold mines. That's big money. They cash-in on it. The only 2 horse vets in this area refuse to make "farm calls" for horses anymore. Haven't done it for about 5 yrs. People who don't have a trailer, or can't borrow one are SOL.
I have 4 cats that I need to take for their yearly shots....Will cost me $200.00 per cat.
We really need a horse vet here!!!!!!

GEEZZZZZZZZ $400.00 I'd be venting too.. Ultra sound cost here is 45.00 How did she do it? Id be asking what she did that on??? Dang, thats a Gash! A friend of mine, called and said, My mare was just bred, and the stallion is wearing shoes, they didn't cover the shoes up with anything.. I thought, Id said Ummm arent you going to put something over the shoes, I dont know about the rest of you, But I either pulled shoes when live covering, or covered them.

Kind of a pain in the arse, isn't it!!!! It is a big pain in butt! We are bringing her and the stallion home next weekend! I took her up there to be bred because I was hoping it would have happened when I took her! She was due to ovulate then! Now it's been almost 2 cycles later and the lady is like..... I guess we missed it! UGH!!! The stallion is owned by a good friend who doesn't have time for him, so she has had him with this lady. Well, I worked a deal out with her to bring him home, fit him back up and show him. He started to show a long time ago and then they just stopped due to a divorce. He has been sitting ever since geting ridden here and there and this lady that has him now uses him for a kids lesson horse. I am more upset because I think the vet or her, not sure is ripping me off! I asked for an itemized bill from the vet before I pay!

| Oh heck yeah!
That is a load of bs - our vet is $35 on an ultra sound, drugs to knock one out cold (castration/etc) usually run about 110 or so...so 6 stitches?!?!?
Geeze - I feel for you!!!

| I would be terribly angry! even in our breeding contract we have someone who we are to call if issues arrise, and failing him/her any veterinarian. You definetly should have been called first...
I also have heard of vets ripping people off if they think they dont know much... dont think this is the case, but it sure sounds like a rip off.
Rectal is about $65 here, and an ultrasound about $90.
