| So I sold three yearlings a week ago Thursday. My website designer liked the looks of them and bought three. He's also taking the pinto mare next Friday. Tomorrow is a saddle horse, team and prospect sale. I have 2 yearlings and 4 two year olds booked into it. I was vacuuming them with the shop vac today, so no worrys about them being quiet. My allergies really act up when I'm spending 3 hours a day grooming shedding horses. The shop vac really helps. The two year olds have all been saddled, bridled and long lined. 3 have been ridden a few times. One I wouldn't get on yet. If I lean my weight on him, he bucks. Brennen was thinking of selling the big buckskin I have been riding, but decided to keep him around a bit longer. He's so talented that it's hard to get rid of him. So with the pony that went, the 3 yearlings, the 6 tomorrow and the mare, that'll make us down 11. I've already filled out the forms to enter our babies into a sale in September. We'll be keeping 1. Brennen already has her chosen. He's got her halter broke, he brushes her and picks up her feet. Nice to have someone else to do some work around here. We have decided to get down to 1 stud, so I'll be keeping Pep, but I'll be selling Gun. So what we'll have left are: 4 mares with foals (Freckles, Vamp, Whiskey, Secret) Sandy- Brennen's 4-H horse Bo- Wade;s big red roan gelding Tom- Brennen's gelding, Taegan has been using him for 4-H Tony- Sean's Welsh pony Tye- Brennen's big buckskin gelding Pep- the stud Trouble- my current saddle mare Seth- Brennen's 2 year old Hickory- my 2 year old project Penny- yearling filly Caffiene- Brennen's red roan SLL yearling
So my problem is figuring which horses will go. My step brother would like to buy Trouble, but I need to see the $$ before she leaves. Brennen'd sell Tom if he gets the right price. And Tye, but we'll keep him if Trouble goes. This is the hardest part. When you get down to the favorites. I could also sell Secret and maybe Whiskey.

| I totally agree... get down to where if you don't use them at least 4 times a month, then they need to go. If youv'e got one that'll do it all, then keep that one.
I can tell you one thing, it's sure nice not to have any babies to deal with this year.

| Thats awesome to hear! Soon you'll just have a few left that you use... less work for you and Brennen!
I am at about
2 stud colts 1 stud 2 geldings 6 mares
lol 11... With what I think will be 3 babies, and then only breeding 2 or 3 for next year as well.
We'll have roughly the same number... lol but I know who should go, just not to worried if they go or not. I might sell my one TB mare yet... not sure though, she's just so dang nice and I'd like to see what she throws with my stud.
How are your and peps "battle scars" healing?

| You know, one thing to keep in mind... especially on these "points"... with fuel going up like it is, there may be less horses in the ring. I filled up the other day, and when it hit $100, I stopped it - that was literally blowing my gosh-danged mind!!!!
I told Rick that even though we're going to open shows, and maybe a couple of quarter shows, uh, this fuel situation, even with open shows... there'd better be a whole bunch in the class, or forget the deal of bringing back more than you spent.
Friend of mine called me the other day, wanted to know what we thought of pricing the yearlings at, said he could swap for some steers... I told him to throw mine into the equation, as well.
Just read some info about fuel prices... they're guessing it's going to get to almost $6 a gallon by next summer. This is getting out of hand big time! If you're even thinking about selling, better hurry up and do it NOW before it gets even worse!!!! With fuel going up, that means feed and hay prices going up, as well.

| It almost seems empty here now. But with just the 2 two year olds at the barn, it's real nice. The rest of ours are in pasture for now. Then the outside mares started arriving, but they requested that we leave them out rather than in stalls in the barn. I love owners like that. They save a whole buck a day, and I save a pile of work. I have ridden to town to get the mail and a few things from the little store here. Why not. I feed my horses regardless of whether I ride them, so I might as well save some gas. I can't take one to do our big grocery shopping cause it's just too far, but the blink town I live near is only 2 1/2 miles away. | |

| The cheapest gas around here is just under $4.00 a gal. Diesel is near $5.00. My husband is riding his motorcycle to work....Lucky for us, we both have a 10 mile round-trip to work and back.
I can see why more and more people are taking up barrel racing. At least there's a chance to make some of your money back.
