Deep Female Field Set For Lubbock Stakes at Zia Park
HOBBS, NM—October 2, 2007—A deep, full field of stakes-proven females make the $55,000 Lubbock Stakes on Saturday (October 6) afternoon an attractive race for fans and horseplayers. First post time is 1:15 p.m. with the 400-yard Lubbock Stakes running as the 10th race on the 11-race program.
The Todd Fincher-trained Buckshot Delight is a sophomore facing older mares after finishing third in the Grade 1, $625,000 Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs last summer and winning the Grade 3 La Mariposa Stakes at The Downs at Albuquerque in her most recent start.
Regular rider Bonifacio Perez rides the First Down Dash filly from the ninth post position in the 10-horse field.
First Wicked Lady returns to New Mexico for trainer Paul Jones after qualifying for the Grade 1 Vessels Maturity and racing in the Grade 2 California Breeders Matron Stakes at Los Alamitos Race Course in Southern California. New Mexico racing fans will remember the First Down Dash filly from finishing second behind Arealstraitheart in last year’s Grade 1, $450,000 All American Derby.
Freddie Martinez rides First Wicked Lady with the second post position.
Fredda Draper’s Ms Misty Brown returns to action for trainer Carl Draper after a 5-month layoff. In her start before her rest she closed to win the $45,000 Sunland Invitational Handicap. It was the Genuine Strawfly filly's second straight win at Sunland Park.
Miss Misty Brown starts from the sixth post position with Oscar Hernandez up.
Phil Chess’ Ms Klee was third behind Buckshot Delight in the La Mariposa Stakes and came back to win the Grade 3 Buttons and Bows Handicap at The Downs at Albuquerque. The veteran Heza Fast Man mare has finished in the top two in 12 of her 23 career starts.
Miss Klee starts from the outside post position and Chris Zamora is the jockey.
