Big Business First romps in the Evangeline Maiden Graduation Stakes
OPELOUSAS, LA—OCTOBER 13, 2007—Big Business First dueled for the early lead before drawing clear in the final 100 yards to win the $53,500 Evangeline Maiden Graduation Stakes for Louisiana Bred Quarter Horses at Evangeline Downs on Saturday evening.
Leaving alertly from the outside post in the ten-horse field, jockey Danny Lavergne was able to keep the 3-year-old gelding in high gear throughout and clear from any possible traffic problems and in turn Big Business First responded with his career best performance. He won by more than a length and his final running time of 20.450 for the 400 yards on a track labeled fast earned him a speed index figure of 89.
Trained by Paul Rigdon and owned by Luther Mount and Lee Brown, the altered son of First To Shine recorded the initial win of his career in his 10th start. Bred locally by co-owner Luther Mount, Big Business First earned $26,750 for the win.
Warrior Party, the fastest qualifier by Party Man of the four trials held last month, rallied boldly in the late stages to grab the runner-up spot, a nose in front of Sheknowsshesfast, a Heza Fast Dash filly.
Candy Man Boo, who broke on top and led in the early stages finished fourth, followed by Sign On Toast, Ww Now R Maybe Later, and Boogies Valentine. Abajo Jr, McM Borgata, and High On Shine completed the order of finish.
Run for just the second time, The Evangeline Maiden Graduation Stakes was restricted to Louisiana Bred three and four-year-olds which were non-winners as of July 15th, 2007.
Jason Boulet, Racing Secretary at Evangeline Downs said, “This event was created to provide another opportunity for the horses and their connections that for various reasons were not able to take advantage of the rich offerings available to our two-year-old and early season three-year-olds in Louisiana , and we are happy with how well it has been received.”
