LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA—SEPTEMBER 17, 2007—Trials to the richest running ever of the Grade 1 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity are in store Saturday, September 22 at Los Alamitos Race Course. The horses with the 10 fastest times in the trials will move on to the $530,000 estimated Breeders Futurity final to be held at 350 yards on Saturday, October 6.

According to the purse development figures, the PCQHRA has collected over $450,000 in total fees to this year's futurity. The race is assured to go over the half a million-dollar mark, as PCQHRA will add $50,000 to the race. In addition, there's a $650 trial entry fee.

As of August 1, 2007, there remains 158 Quarter Horse eligible to compete in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity trials. Seventy-six freshman horses competed in last year's trials, so the $530,000 could turn out to be a conservative figure and easily a stakes record. Last year's Breeders Futurity enjoyed a purse of $450,000. That was the first time that the Breeders Futurity had reached the $400,000 mark.

Among the horses still eligible to compete in the Breeders Futurity trials is Double Bar S Ranch's two-time Grade 1 winner Carters Cartel. The son of Corona Cartel, who has already earned $616,837, won the Kindergarten Futurity and Ed Burke Million Futurity earlier this year.

Trained by Jaime Gomez, Carters Cartel broke Corona Chick's 350-yard track record when winning the Ed Burke Million in a sizzling time of :17.17. Double Bar S Ranch won last year's PCQHRA Breeders Futurity with Tac It Like A Man. Carters Cartel posted a 220-yard turn and work of :12.3 on September 8.

Ed Allred's Daddy Dasher and Freaky are also eligible to the Breeders Futurity trials. Daddy Dasher ran second to Carters Cartel in the Kindergarten. Freaky qualified to both the Kindergarten and Governor's Cup futurities. Stylish Jess Br, winner of the Ed Burke Juvenile Stakes; Governor's Cup Futurity finalists Bikers Bono and First Icy Morn; Ed Burke Million finalists Kiddy Up and Tailgunner Tom; Kindergarten finalists Go By Express and Perksandmiracles; and Ed Burke Million trial winner Masters Call are among the horses eligible to compete in the 350-yard trials.
