APOLLITICAL TIME RETURNS IN CHILDERS
July 26, 2007 – Juan Alberto Tirado-Lizarraga’s Apollitical Time —the 2006 champion aged horse— makes her first start in more than six months when she heads the $150,000 Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship (RG1) at Los Alamitos on Saturday night.
The Juan Aleman-trained Apollitical Time (Apollo (TB)-Half Time Attraction by First Down Dash) was absolutely sensational in 2006 with five consecutive stakes wins before finishing fourth in the Grade 1, $600,000 Champion Of Champions as the 19-10 favorite.
She started her winning streak when she won the California Breeders Matron Stakes during California Breeders Champions Night.
A stunning victory in the MBNA America® California Challenge Championship (G1) and her win in the Los Alamitos Championship (G1) highlighted her winning streak. In the California Challenge Championship, she raced the 440 yards in :21.18 for the all-time fastest quarter-mile under the lights at Los Alamitos and just :00.01 off Dash For Cash’s track record.
Apollitical Time carries high weight of 126 pounds while Catchmeinyourdreams carries 125 pounds.
Kirk Goodfellow’s Catchmeinyourdreams (Pritzi Dash-Lizas Mystique by White Tie) has been second in the latest two runnings of the Childers behind Be A Bono, who didn’t return to try for his fourth-straight Childers victory. The 8-year-old gelding trained by Chris O’Dell was also second to Apolltical Time’s fast clocking in the California Challenge Championship.
Catchmeninyourdreams started his 2007 campaign with a late-running allowance win at Los Alamitos on July 5, an out that should have him ready for the Childers.
P.K. Thomas’ Volcom (First Down Dash-Runaway Vike, Runaway Winner) already has a berth in this year’s $1 million Champion Of Champions by virtue of his victory in the Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1). Since that win in February, Volcom finished seventh in the Vessels Maturity (G1) as the 6-5 favorite. That was his most recent start for trainer Paul Jones.
