This Snow Is Cold Looks To Defend Bank of America® Challenge THE AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE RACING JOURNAL, JULY 13, 2007—The Los Ladrilleros Horse Racing Company’s
This Snow Is Cold races for the opportunity to defend her title in the $300,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) when she heads the $106,560 Bank of America Texas Challenge (G1) at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night.
The Bank of America Texas Challenge winner will be invited to participate in the Bank of America Challenge Championship on November 3 at Los Alamitos.
The Russel Hadley-ridden This Snow Is Cold (This Snow Is Royal-Fance Loretta by Reckless Dash) was a champion contender last year with her win in the Challenge Championship to go with wins in the Texas Challenge Championship (G1) and the Oklahoma Challenge Championship (G1). She was also second to champion Country Chicks Man in the Remington Park Championship (G1).
This Snow Is Cold won her trial by a half length over This Candys Red Hot (Leaving Memories-Eye On The Candy by Mr Eye Opener).
This Candys Red Hot and La Jollaroid are each owned by Jim and Marilyn Helzer and trained by Sleepy Gilbreath.
This Candys Red Hot was a Grade 1 winner at 2 and came back last year to finish third in the Texas Classic Derby (G1). The lifetime earner of $242,504 came back from a layoff to finish second to the favored This Snow Is Cold.
Owned by the Helzers and Les Horner, La Jollaroid (Streakin La Jolla-Miss Dasheroid by Some Dasher) should feel at home at Sam Houston after winning the Sam Houston Classic (G2) and running second in the TQHA Classic (G3) last summer at the Texas track. He had trouble at the start of his Bank of America Texas Challenge trial as the odds-on favorite but should improve in the finals since the trial was his first start in six months.
