| I need to get one for my gelding but I wanted to know if there was one that you all recommended that worked well. The flies are bothering his eyes really bad even with fly spray. | |

| I use the Farnham Super Mask. These have a double velcro on them. I cut one of them off (the second latch). Horses have been known to get caught in them and kill themselves when they do not break away.. The mask needs to be on tight enough that the flyes do not get up under it. But, not so tight that their jaws can't move when they are chewing.. You can also buy a roll on fly killer. This can be used for the area the mask does not cover. I have it but do not use it.. I do not like the donkey ear ones. | |

| Well I can tell you, do not buy the light blue colored one that Schneiders sells, because it would fit a Clydesdale... | |

| I use the flu masks by Absorbine, they're hard to find, but look for them online. They do a great job and I haven't had a horse tear one up yet, and I've had mine for three years! | |

| I'm lucky, my local tack store carries them for about 22 bucks a piece, which is ok with me, rather pay that once than 15 bucks four times a year per horse. I'll do some lookin' around and see if I can find them online for you | |

| one for 3 years? LOL thats unheard of here... LOL My stud wears a fly mask year round, and goes through about 2-3 a year (on a good year ) We use the same ones as Blue Jay, but ours are a bit pricey... are they cheaper down there blue jay? I need to find a good one with a nose cover for my stud.... since both his eyes and his nose burn... on another note... I've never heard of horses getting strangled by fly masks....>? with the way ours break, I never thought it would be a big problem. Maybe our horses are just extremely destructive? LOL But thank you Blue jay for bringing that up... very good note! They dont make the double velcro ones for foals, but all of my blue eyed pink skinned foals get fly masks at weaning time...they walk around like they think they are blind for a couple mins, then they are fine lol | |

| I get two to three years out of the super mask. Just never know when you might find something you like better.. I like to try new things.. I have tried many brands and always go back.. But, you never know when you get something that is a little more stable. I should not even say this because I know it might jinx me.. OK, here goes.. My horses do not tear up their stuff.. I have blankets and sleazys that are years old.. No holes even... I am talking about youngsters too.. I have blankets I have used since 1999. | |

lol thank you blue jay... thats my little colty I was talkin bout on the other thread... The only problem with the sunscreen is that even the unscented stuff, my stud wont let us put on.... we just use zinco fax on his nose, and his eyes dont burn because he wears the mask.. but even that he doesnt like. Ahhh the downfalls of buying a 4 yr old stud... Now my babies on the other hand... they are good with anything I say LOL, they just let me do it... and I prefer it that way | |
