Need help with Depression/Suicide...

Ok, i have a REALLY good friend who is suffering from depression and I don't know what to do about it. Last week he finally told me and said that i was the only person he could talk to because his other friends would just laugh at him and i'm the only one who will listen and help. Well for a week I've been trying to get him to tell his mom. So yesterday he FINALLY told her and what does she do? she laughs. yah. nice mom huh? ??

sooo that made him feel even worse and he is always saying how he just wants to die and he has nothing to look forward to, blah blah. I don't even know what to say to him anymore and I don't know what to do. I really want to call his mom but i'm to scared. I keep telling him to go talk to her again but he said hes never talking to her again and he wasn't ever going home. but he did go home last night. His mom has called him 100 times but he won't answer it and idk what else.

He is my ex bf and i care about him a lot. He says he loves me and he's never felt this way about a girl before but i'm moving and I have found someone else and he knows that and he said i broke his heart and dah dah dah. But anyways I need you guys help!!

Well goodness.. Apparently his Mother has no clue that many young people do kill themselves.. The first thing you should do is not let him make you feel quilty.. I would not say he is doing this to get your attention since this may not be the case.. However, you should not go down that road with him..

He needs to talk to a professional. It's great that you are his friend and will listen.. There is medication he can take to help him through his down time.. I would not hesitate to call his Mother either.. If you don't and he does something you will never forgive your self.. If she laughs at you then so be it. At least you will have done everything you can do. I would also contact his teachers and anyone else you think will help him. Try to get others involved so you can back away slowly and he can get some help.

I think it's wonderful that you listen and talk to him. However, this is a great way to get your attention and keep you close.. He needs to get inside and find out why he feels this way and solve that problem.. The fact that you have moved on is not why is feels this way. May add to it but not the real reason.

call a suicide prevention hotline in your area they will be able to give you ideas locally for assistance... there are a # of things you can do as a friend to help but you should not be taking this responsiblity on yourself! You are too young to be shouldering this responsiblity... find an adult you trust to talk with about this if something happens and he does decide to end his life and you don't turn to someone you will have long term guilt this is too much for you to handle alone... if I remember correctly you are close with your parents talk with them they can be a great resource at a time like this.

Thanks guys. I guess from what i've gotten out of him he basically just hates his parents. I don't see why but I guess. And I guess I broke his heart and he said he is so sad because he always thought of me as someone he could have a future with and i pushed it all away?

I REFUSE to let him take any med. just because one of my other friends was on it and he ..long story lol but no. haha

I'm trying to get him to go to a doctor and if he doesn't talk to his mom soon i'm going to do it. I've talked to her before since we were going out before.

I wish my mom was here. Its so hard to talk to her over the phone.

I am trying also erik wants to hang out so we are gonna like play soccer, hang out at the fair, go to the rodeo, just hang out when we can. He said thats what he needs too.

Lynn's advise is very good.. I remember when I was young I hated my parents too. I think many kids do. No reason, I have very nice respectable parents. Just a kid thing I guess.

Nice of you to hang out with him. I would still do what Lynn says though. I would also call him mother right away. And any other adults you trust. There are also the crisis lines.
