We get good alfalfa from a local farmer for 3-3.50 per bale (large two string bales). We buy timothy/orchard grass mix for 2.50/bale delivered and stacked. We also keep a round bale of good quality grass hay out for the old guys. They do better when they can eat 24/7. A large bale that hangs out of our big round bale feeder costs 35.00.

Prices here are about the same as Merikle's, but we put up our own. We don't pick and stack, we have a machine for that. Okay, my father in law has a stacker and we just borrow it, but it really saves on work. And gives more time to ride.
Hay was selling in an ad today for 4 cents a pound, good first cut alfalfa.

7Cedars- My feed jumped from $9 a bag to $11.90 a bag in just 2 weeks. I guess thats what I get for feeding Strategy.

Silverbuckle- Wow, thats not a bad deal at all for some 3 string alfalfa, I just paid $21-22 for the same thing.

I need to bring in another truck load or 2 seeing as how things are going to keep going up Rolling Eyes .

I feed Strategy too and it did the same thing. Purina had a major price
increase, but they have a new pretty bag! dorks! I go through about 35
bags of feed per month and at least one big bale of hay per day.....
hurts the pocket book right now! affraid
