| Just curious how other people with their own barns or the barns you board at deal with manure disposal, especially in winter. In the winter when we clean stalls we just dump it in a huge pile right behind the barn. There is a window to pitch out into the pile, because the snow gets to deep to spread the manure. In the spring when the fields dry we take the loader and just load into the spreader and spread until we clean the pile out. The rest of the year we park the spreader behind the barn and pitch directy into it and spread when it's full. Right now, I need to get that pile out of here though and we are so busy on the farm with planting spraying and everything else. It's going to start breeding flies like crazy unless it's already heated up enough to have killed all the fly eggs. I don't know too much about that. Anyway just curious as to what other people do. It can be a big problem, I'm sure, if you don't have land to spread it on. | |

| A commercial grower of Veggies, contacted us. He lives a trailer at our barn, we fill it up, they come by weekly and pick it up dump it and bring it back all in the same day. Just love this guy. | |

| Stockman, we do pretty much the same thing you do. Our pile is pretty far from the barn, though, so glad the boys can do the dumping now... HA! Oh, about three times a year, Rick gets it with the tractor and fills up any empty holes out in the pasture or any low spots, etc. Had a friend of mine that what she did with hers, absent the hay, as she had a walker, is when she'd (me) strip stalls, we'd dump it where the walker was - never got icky or anything else, and she was a firm believer in those little wasp things. | |

| We make piles and the neighbor takes it all. I also spread it around the pastures. | |

| We spread, haul and fill with ours. And, mann do we have a lot of hit.. I wish I had someone who would bring a box out and haul it away.. That would be SWEET... We do not dump next to barn tough. Too many flies we do not want around.. We also haul ours out of the stalls with a cart. Nothing gets dumped near the barn. | |

| Sooo, who else feeds garlic to their horses to cut down on flies?!?
I'm a BIG fan of it during the summer! We buy it by the jar (chopped)...awesome stuff! | |

| Kidd, I'd heard that worked. Tell me, do they smell like they've been eating Italian food all the time? HA! Also heard that it works great on their blood. | |

| How much garlic do you have to feed? That sounds pretty neat. Nobody does that feed-through fly preventative (I think its called Solitude?) I wonder how that works. Yeah, we only dump our manure near the barn in the winter when there are no flies. Usually we have it all cleaned up before fly season starts, but this year has been hectic to say the least! I want it out of there but I don't know how to work the loader!! It's a big old thang!!! | |
