| OK, i forgot to mention that this weekend at the rodeo, I talked to Pinto's old owners. They said that Yes, he does infact have registration papers to APHA! Now the only thing is, If we want to recover them, we need to drive down south about 4 hours to get a copy from them. We do not have the registry number or anything. Is there any was to recover them with pictures or something else? Im just trying to see if I can get myself out of the 4 hour drive to get the copy. | |

| Where down south and what do you have to do to get them? Remember, I'm in Houston and Kidd is in the middle somewhere! | |

| Haven't they ever heard of the US mail? Why don't they just send you the copy? | |

| Either that or fax it... there's a Kinko's nearby everywhere or an office supply place. | |

| Well, I live about 60 miles southeast of Austin in Giddings, Texas. They live about 4 1/2 hours southwest of us, close to the border. They could just fax it or something, but I need to get back in touch with them. I need to talk to Raymond, the guy I bought Pinto from. | |

| I'm confused.... let me see if I get this right... This is your horse, was problems with the paperwork prior to this, but now I'm assuming the breeder or the person you bought him/her from now has the papers? Is that right? | |

| Yes. I have Pinto. The man failed to tell me (over 1 year ago) that he is APHA reg'd. I saw him at the parade last weekend. He then told me that he had been reg'd by his breeder , then transferred to him. Then we asked him if we could get them, and he said he lost the number, but his brother has it. We are going to try to redeem the papers, I jus want to know if there might be some other way to get the papers. I want to hopefully show him in APHA if i can get the papers and transfer them to my name. | |

| I'd maybe ask apha what route you should take?? Maybe they can pull them up under the brothers name or the mans name?? Just a thought? That would at least give you his reg # and name. | |

| With APHA all you need is: A signed and notorized affidavit stating that the papers were lost, 4 color photos of pinto (they need to be printed out, not digital) and a signed transfer paper. You don't necessarily need a copy of the papers except to get the number... You can print out all of the forms from the APHA web site...
I would do the following: Take pics of pinto and have them ready. Print out the re-issue form from APHA and highlite the portions the old owner needs to fill out, also print out a tranfer form and fill it out as best you can and once again highlite the portions the old owner needs to fill out... THEN, mail those forms and a letter to him WITH a POSTAGE PAID return envelope...call him about 5 days after you mail those to him...once you get them back, send them in to APHA and you'll get re-issued papers in your name...

| So, does he have the originals? Or does he just have a copy? I would think that you could call him and he could get you the reg # from his copy, and then you contact APHA from there. I know I would definately hold on to your reciept, just in case he tries to pull something about the papers. Why is he making you drive down there to get them? | |

| Good grief. With AQHA you would do as Kidd said. People do loose papers. If you have the registerd name you should be able to find that # that way. Then go through the process as Kidd said. Affidavid etc.. On QH is has to be noterized. I had this happen with one I bought. Cost me 45.00 (AQHA) and the registered owners were so nice not only did they take care of their end they sent me pictures of her relatives.. This seems to be a pretty improtant thing for your horse. Also, APHA can guide you through it.. This is good news.. | |

| Fortunately APHA and AQHA are now on the same page with that stuff... helps!!!
I've have had 3 horses over the past 5 years come to me with papers that either have an OOOOOOLD owner on them, OR lost papers...I've done a LOT of checking up on horses, tracking down owners and bills of sale, etc...it is a pain in the royal BUTT....it is good that you bought him thinking he wasn't registered!!!
