Fly Spray...

OK, so for many of us, the bad fly season is allready upon us. So I wanna hear your thought on the fly sprays you've had the most success with... and the least. So here's mine

Best: Bronco by Farnam

Least: Equine Fly and Mosquito Spray by MannaPro

With Bronco, I see flies gone almost immediatly.... but with the MannaPro stuff... it stinks!!! It doesnt last long either...

So, what about you guys?

I've tried a lot of sprays and the best I've found is a home remedy of 1/3 cider vinegar, 1/3 water and 1/3 Avon Skin So Soft.

I like Pyranha fly spray. Comes in a yellow spray bottle or aerosol can. It is a little greasy, but it's cheap and works well.

I've never had a bit of luck with Bronco!! We must have diffeent flies around here! That Absorbine Supershield is okay. I think that is what it's called. I haven't looked at it in a year! Really I haven't been totally pleased with anything we've tried and I've tried alot. I think they are mostly way too expensive. We catch alot of flies in those little plastic jugs that you put the fly attractant in. The flies go in and can't get out. We set those around. I might try that homemade stuff smokey makes. That sounds interesting. Does anyone have any experience with those feed-through fly preventers? I wonder if that works.

I'm done with fly sprays forever and always. I use a combination of three things to keep our fly POPULATION down period. I use the fly eliminators, which runs us right at about $20.00 a month and they come in the mail which is really convienent and I swear by these suckers, they will knock a lot of the fly population out. I keep my stalls as clean as possible, and actually scrape them with a tractor once a month or so, depending on what the individual horse is like. The other thing that I use is really the best, it's what they use at dairy farms to reduce the flys (not neccesarily the same brand, but similar product.), is Demand Pestabs. It is a pesticide type of thing, you spray it on the roosting spots like inside cielings of the barn, coral posts, anywhere a fly likes to land and rest. The nice thing about this stuff is that even without the eliminators, it almost knocks the flies out completely. Even nicer, it kills mosquitoes, gnats, no-see-ums, spiders, basically anything that walks on the stuff but it's not shown to have any reaction in cattle or livestock period. I mean, they use this stuff in dairy farms, and we buy the milk from them, and they use it in every part of their facilities, so I believe it's safe, and it lasts me FOREVER. I buy the big bucket with 40 tablets, and one tablet in a gallon of water (which treats 1500 sq feet) will treat my barn for about 10 weeks. Keep in mind too, I have six horses in one confined area. The other thing that I can reccomend to help on keeping fly population down is to keep weeds down, because that's another big resting spot for flies. If anyone uses the pestabs, I reccomend just covering up the water and feeder openings and taking the horse out of the stall, just because, well, I don't like to think of my horse having pesticide on their coat, but well, isn't that pretty much what fly spray is? lol.
