Need help on an assignment (hores related)

Ok so in class we read "The Oddyssey" and we have to do a project on it. I told my teacher that I couldn't think of anything to do and she asked me what I was interested in, and I said "horses" but that has nothing to do with "the oddyssey" and she said it could just have to do with the time period...SO I have to make this poster thing of a picture of a horse from back in the time of "the oddyssey" and what horses look like now. I have been looking but if anyone can find a picture or know of where I can get a picture of a horse from around the time of 1200 B.C. that would be AWSOME!!!

What about Alexander the Great's horse, Bocephilius (sp?)... maybe that'll work. That's the only famous horse I think of at this point.

I googled Bucephalus and there is alot of stuff about him but unfortunately he died around 326 BC so you are not really talking about the same time period. That was an excellent suggestion though. If I get a minute later on today I'll ook around again. There haas to be something ont he web about horses in that time period.

Dillon wasn't here to ask as far as what was happening in that period. If it has something to do with Roman history, that boy just about knows it all.

Does anybody know what was going on during that time period? I don't have a clue what the Odyssey is about... maybe chariot races?

All right I just looked it up again. The Odyssey and the Iliad were about the Trojan War. (Remember the Trojans wheeled the Trojan Horse in to attack the city). It's all a little vague to me too!! Anyway, Xanthus was a famous horse of Achilles in the war who was granted the power of speech by Hera so he could warn Achilles of his impending death then he was struck dumb again. I'm sure it would be relatively easy to find some images of Xanthus on google images and you could find out quite a bit of history about him too. How you would relate that to modern time horses is another story! Maybe you should just do the poster on famous horses of the Trojan War. They mentioned another horse of Achilles as well. I just didn't look really hard!! Just google Xanthus and start from there!

Got Dillon standing right here with me... Says Achilles' horse is the only one that he remembers that's actually mentioned. Dillon says there's a sculpture of Achilles' horse, and he says Google the name of his horse or Achilles' horse, but he says it really doesn't look like a horse.

He says during 1200 BC, there's not really much going on... the Greek empire went into a dark age for about 400-500 years, and the Odyssey and the Iliad are really the only written records we ahve of that time (I'm sitting here typing what he's saying), and that those books were written 500 years plus after it happened. The Marcenians (sp?) weren't good rulers - they took over the Greek Empire and it went into decline, they're from up in northern Greece, he thinks... they were barbarians that invaded from the Steppes (whatever the heck that is)....

Usually when he starts talking this mess, I'm totally lost, so I listen, and it goes right out the other ear. I get this, "Mom, did you know...." and if you don't want to hear anymore, you better not ask a question, 'cuz if you do, you'll be hearing about 2,000 years worth of Roman history! Mr. Smarty Pants, if'n you ask me!

I thought about doing the Trojan horse idea but the boys are doing something with that so I thought I would just let them do it.
