| I've never given horses any electrolytes, but the longest I've ever hauled was bringing Jazz back. Hopefully, somebody can give you some info on 'em. | |

| I think we might need them because we are hauling the hottest time of the year *August* and from Minnesota to Arizona? | |

| The Electrolytes I buy can be put in either their feed or water. I find that for my food loving horses, it's easiest to put the electrolytes in their feed. My vet said it's best to start Electrolytes two days before the trip, give it to them while on the trip and for at least two days after the trip is over. Hope this helps. | |

| I know Kelly and Bluejay know people who NOT TO USE! Let me see if I can find that guy that brought my mares down from the World sale. He was super nice, had a fantastic rig, was really in tune with the horses, etc. | |

| Get a flavored kind, Start it a week or so early. So as you travel across country and the water smells funny or tastes differant, the flavor in it will trick them into thinking nothing is differant. Mine like Cherry. If you dont want to go the expense you can use coke, or cool aid. In the water, anything to hide the taste of the new water. The point is keep them drinking. | |

| It might be worth having them hauled. Many of the haulers have AC in the trailers and they do take care of them.. Be sure if you go this rought you choose a good one.. | |

| I'm still trying to get caught up on all of the cool stuff I missed last week!!!!
I buy the flavored kind - I USUALLY mix it in the horses' feed. In THIS case I would not do that...I would mix it in their water. The electrolytes will come with a scoop and instructions. Mix the electrolytes into their water starting about 2-3wks before your trip! Once a horse is used to the taste of them in their water it makes it MUCH easier to haul if you run out of your "home" water!!! The horses adjust to new water a LOT more quickly too!!!
I would ALSO buy electrolytes in a tube and have a few tubes on hand. They aren't expensive but they work GREAT!!! The TUBE of electrolytes will help to boost one back if they start to get dehydrated (pinch their skin and if it doesn't spring back, they are starting to be dehydrated...if it takes a while they are already dehydrated)...The tube stuff can save your rear when you've got one that stresses!!!

| Thanks a bunch! Everyone has been great. We packed a lot tonight, I think i'm sleeping on the floor, all that is left in my room is my bed and we aren't even moving until august! AH! my dad is moving some stuff down there on friday though. We ARE hauling the horses by ourselves though, Unless our horsey friends from down the road are heading that way, I trust them way more than I trust myself lol
Those tubes will probably be good for Cisco, I'm afraid he's gonna stress out..
