| My poor goat I had a friend goat sit him becuase she has a barn and our shed is too cold well she feed him crap (doughnuts, crawlers, junk food) I think that is the cause of him not feeling well he has a fever of 103 , diarhhea, not drinking, not eating (except a piece of paper I was holding ! ) he has been very depressed and there wern't any gut sounds whatsoever I gave him gateorade (the little monster wouldn;t open his mouth for anything and bit me!) and yogurt until I can get a hold of some probiotics Im really worried about the little guy hes never been sick and I think it might be impaction -- but he was kinda bloated and I'm worried about that (although he is a pygmy so he is naturally a little 'plump') If anyone has advice could you please share thanks | |

| You're in FFA, right? I'd call your advisor...mine are available for us 24/7, so when I panic, that's who I go to! Sorry I'm not more of a help, I raised lambs | |

| Good idea to call the advisor. I would load him up with mineral oil and get him pooping again... Enima if you have too. You can make your own with mineral oil and warm water, or get a fleet for babies at the drug store. You gotta get that fever down. I give foals Sulfa tabs for that. I do not know what you would give a goat. But, if was my kid (human) it would be a teppid bath. Keep him warm and lots of fluid. If you get him pooping the fever may come down. If he is not pooping he is filling up with waste. | |

| Goat update! haha
I did exactly that one of our teachers has nubian goats so I ended up bringing him into school he is feeling a little better - a litter perkier (head-butted someone today) -- his fever broke we have been giving him electrolytes and he now loves blue gatorade!
but he still is picky with his food and still no gut sounds but we tried silage today and he loved it so it looks like he'll be okay I hope
thanx everyone! | |

| We have a goat but I don't know much about them. Our goat acts way more like a horse than a goat LOL. He has none of the normal goat tendencies like chewing on people's clothes and stuff. He was raised from a pretty young age with our horses. Originally he was a companion to our only, lonely horse. And he is indestuctible. I can't imagine him getting sick! Twice he has gone into the haymow and jumped off, probably 15 feet onto concrete and none the worse for wear! A few weeks ago he was wandering in the barn, (we let him walk around sometimes in the winter when they can't get out) and he got into one of those mouse bait things with the poison. He gobbled the whole thing up! I don't know how he reaached it or why. It was tucked way under a shelf. Anyway, we braced for the worst, but nothing happened! His name is Buttercup, but he is usually known as Butterball! | |

| Aw, glad to hear he's doing better! And I've got to add...I think animals in general are hardier than we give them credit for. This year at our ag barn, a pig broke loose one day and ate about a 1/4 of a bag of steer feed, some of a bag of oats, and nibbled a hole open in some lamb feed. Shockingly, he lived to oink the tale! | |

| he is so much better today! I went to school with my teacher to check on him (school on a saturday yay ) lol I took him for a walk becuase it was in the 50's today and the sun was out and he was eating some shrubs and landscaping that the Plant Science class did lol (shhhhh!) he doesn't have the runs anymore and is pooing but still no gut sounds ? so I think he just isn't rumenating (sp?) and he isn't chewing his cud -- the little guy has lost weight though but I'm sure he'll have no problem putting it back on! | |
