| Thanks you guys... This was my first and hopefully last involvement with any type of bone infection. In all honesty, I would have had her put down a long time ago, but we got ahold of a vet that I had trusted, but they ended up just being after our money, which I really didn't even have. We tried every course of antibiotics that we could. What that vet really should have told us is that these bone infections are usually over before they begin. It's a really sad thing and someday, I hope that our vets put some effort into finding the best way to treat this problem, because it's a lot more common than I ever thought. But, I'm ok with this. This mare is one tough cookie and I'm glad she'll get to rest in peace and be able to use all four legs without hurting. She's such an absolute doll, one I'll for sure never forget. Best all around horse I've ever had the pleasure of using. She has a foal or two out there, we sold her last filly over summer to an awesome home I've pretty much made peace with this ordeal, I know I honestly did everything we could possibly do and it just wasn't enough... I think God only lets you have the good ones for a little while Thank you guys so much though, I know you all know how this goes. | |

| I'm sorry for your loss. I know dealing with a bone infection can be hard. Poor Tony started to turn into a real grump after 22 days on Excenel. She'll be better off without dealing with daily pain. Once again, very sorry for your loss. | |

| So sorry for what you are going through. Its a hard decision to make when the vets are leading you to believe there is cure somewhere. I found a vet when my Sterling was suffering that told me how it was going to be. He didnt sugar coat it or surround it with daisys. I had two choices, one of which would end his life, and the other, painful surgeries, less than 15% survival rate, and not to mention the $25,000 to cover all expenses. When I saw all the pain in him, I opted to have him put down. It was kinder that way.
Well, if you need to talk you know where I am! | |
