Its been forever since Ive made a post or even commented on a post.

Ive met and fallen in love with a mare that is finished in penning and sorting. Shes built nice, but shes a flea biten gray, Not the prettiest coat color, but she can work a cow like no other! I did my first jack pot sorting last weekend and we made it back to the finals on all rides. I finished 6th and 7th out of 40 or so teams. Not too shabby for my first real sorting.

Im going to buy her at the end of September. And hopefully Vegas willbe reaady by Januaryfor the Ft Worth Stock Show. Then theres a 7yr old mare that is jet black and an awesome cow horse, but shes more expensive...

I had a hard decision to make a few weeks ago. I had to put Sterling down. I found him in his stall, half his grain was gone. I got him up and he flirted with the grass, but didnt go at it like usual. I called for some banamine, but someone used it and didnt replace it. I tried for 6 hours to get a vet to come out, but no one returned my call. I tried every vet within a 50 mile radius. I even called the emergency hospital, but their excuse was that, "there is no one here that can draw up the shot". I went off the wall after hearing that. I waited until 6 in the am before I got someone to get out there. My poor guy suffered for soo long. Its the worst Ive seen in awhile. I had 2 choices, surgery that he had a 20% chance of survival, or euthanasia. Idid what I thought was best for him. He was just getting to the age where he was really filling out and maturing.

Hopefully I can get back here more often, I miss it.

Congrats on your sorting! Still to this day I wish I could go penning every weekend lol. I sure can't wait for Larry to recoup so we can go to some jackpots. Good luck with the mare though, she sounds really nice, can't wait to see pictures!

I am so very sorry about Sterling... Unfortunately vets sometimes I think loose perspective on why they became vets in the first place. I immagine that was a very hard decision for you. (HUGS)

I lost one in June and my heart is still broken and always will be. I always keep a supply of the usual things here just in case I have a problem. No one gets in to it.. I can even start IV fluids if I have to No

I live so far out I could easily loose one before a vet gets here.. I have learned to treat many things. But, it your horse has a colon torsion there is nothing you can do about it.

I do not know how you lost your loved one.. I have been through the vet not calling back. I also have many I can call. There are those times when they are all out on calls. I just will never let myself get in that situation again. You did the right thing even though it hurts your heart. Sad

Your new horse and all the plans you have for working horse will be such fun. If I was younger that is what I would want to do.. I used to enjoy all that stuff. riding

Awww sorry about Sterling.. Sometimes its just better to not let them suffer and Im sure he thanks you for doing the best thing.

And congrats on the new horse! She sounds like shes going to work out perfect. Your first sorting sounds like it went great. Best of luck with her! Very Happy
