Don't beat yourself up over it. This is something she had. Yeah, maybe being pregnant triggered it early, but likely would have come out sooner or later. I feel so terrible for both of you. Are you getting more testing such as what Rood & Riddle suggested?

Oh, I dont think so... (IF) Rood & Riddle is right, it may not be what your vet suggests. Also it said stress. Stress can be anything from, Temp Changes, moving or hauling, and new pasture buddy. You just never know. For being such strong big animals. They are easy to stress. Besides, breeding her is natural. Why wouldn't you think it was OK?
Any one on this forum would have done the same thing. Do Not Blame yourself over this. No

What did the vet tell you to expect with the steriods? scratch Like how long does she need to be on these, what results should you see and when should you see them? coffee

Widget starting to go over at the knee,he growing far to quick.
He only a month old so got a way to go before i can wean him,we were going to wean him at 3 months anyway because of this.He only now starting to get an interest in feed.
Ive restricted her grazing, she bascially on nothing as she bloating out with steriods.Vets warned me she may get laminitis,so im trying my best to keep it at bay.
zana on a 6 week course to start with and then we go from there.

You may want to try a product FOAL AID, by Buckeye. When My Babies get the wobbles on the knees, I give them this and it gets them back on track. My vets suggests this product.

I had the same problem with Tucker. By the time he was 3 days old, his legs were pretty bowed. Rather than wrap his front legs, we just put mom on grass hay. He straightened out in a week or so.

When Tucker was about a week old.....I was watching him play with his mom.....When it suddenly occurred to me.....He never ran under is mom's belly.....Then I realized that he was way too tall to do it!!!!!!!! (Mom is over 16hds) His bones were growing faster than his soft tissue.

How is Zana doing scratch It's very hard to slow down the growing. I had the same problem with Chad before he died. I tried all kinds of things mostly with his diet and keeping his feed down. Didn't help much. He just kept getting taller. affraid

I wonder if some cool packs would help the swelling in her face? You could wrap some crushed ice packs in light towels and put them under a loose sleazy for awhile a couple times a day. scratch Might help her a little. Ice works on all other kinds of swelling might just work on this.

I sold the paint mare about a week after putting her on DH. Some people I know took her and she is going under saddle right away. She got a GREAT home and will get to be a horse for a change. I am very happy with that. riding cheering ily

will give that a try.

Thats good news about your paint mare, bet your pleased.

Im just taken a horse on loan with view to buy and sadly she having to go back as she lame.
Has a problem in the foot that wasnt mentioned, shame as i really liked the horse and she would have got me in the show pen ready for when i bring Shiraz out.
So its back to the drawing board,if you hear of any good all round quarter horse mares not worried on colour as long can be shown and ridden out on the trails thats great with me.
Have $8,000 to spend
got to be able to be shown in Halter, pleasure, trail etc not worried about reining.
