After the consultation from Dr. Bramlage at Rood & Riddle came back and he said that we should definitely go ahead and remove the OCD from my filly's fetlock, we went ahead and rescheduled her surgery. I only told a handful of people because I was afraid to jinx it, after they cancelled it last time. Janie had her surgery today and is now at home in her stall recovering. She was a little sleepy and sore when I picked her up but my trainer, Sarah, said she was pretty bright by this evening. So now we have 4-6 weeks of stall confinement and then 2-4 weeks of turnout in a small pen (more likely hand walking and ponying as I doubt the weather will be cooperating by then). I sure hope that reserpine works.

I have a tube filled with the pieces of the OCD they took out. The largest is about the size of an M&M. Apparently there was quite a bit of attachment to the ligament, so her prognosis was stated to be approximately 60% chance of return to being shown. I am guardedly hopeful at this point. And relieved, and exhausted.

You have both been in my prayers! I'm sure happy that Janie made it through another surgery safely, that had to have been a big relief for you. Those 60% odds are good, much better than what you had to hang on to before. I'm happy for you, and I'll keep praying for a full recovery, all the way back to the show ring ;o) *hugs*

I went out and gave her two BIG injections of antibiotics before work this morning. She was feeling fine and looking for her hay, and wondering why the HECK I was there at such an ungodly hour!

haha glad to hear everything went well!!

My friend's horse (big warmblood) had to be on reserpine with stall rest. It knocked the moose out! lol it definitely made the confinement more tolerable. Janie seems like a laid back girl so I'm sure she can handle it

I'll be praying for Janie's recovery. Hang in there

Sarah took out Janie's stitches Sunday after we got home from Gordyville. One of them bled a little because she had to dig to get it out, but otherwise they looked OK. Janie was really good, she didn't fuss or kick when we were scrubbing up her leg before and after, or during the suture removal. She's been really quiet in the stall so far, we have the ace and reserpine on hand but haven't had to use them. She has lost a little weight due to not getting any grain, but that will be easy enough to fix after her rehab is over. I'm sure Janie is glad to have her itchy stitches out, she was so good and never even touched the bandages but I know it had to itch. She is bandaged again now, but when I change it today she will get to wear just a plain polo wrap from now on. She'll have three weeks of Adequan and Legend once a week, which means a shot in the stifle and she does not particularly care for that so we will twitch her for the injections to make sure she doesn't decide to kick out and hit her ankle on the wall. So...so far, so good!
