Grade 1 Winner Volcom To Join Lazy E Ranch Roster in 2008 Guthrie, OK—October 7, 2007—Grade 1 winner and 2007 Champion of Champions(G1) finalist Volcom will join the Lazy E Ranch stallion battery in 2008 following his retirement from racing.
"We are excited to get the opportunity to stand this outstanding son of First Down Dash", Lazy E manager, Butch Wise said during the Los Alamitos Equine sale on Saturday.
Owned by P.K. Thomas, Volcom won 11 of 22 starts including three stakes and has earned nearly $400,000. A multiple grade 1 winner, his biggest victory came April 22, 2007, when he earned an invitation to the 2007 Champion of Champions(G1) by winning the $236,800 Los Alamitos Winter Championship(G1).
Conditioned by AQHA Champion trainer Paul Jones and ridden by leading rider Cody Jensen, he also won the El Primero Del Ano Derby(G1), Los Alamitos Prep Handicap, was second in the Los Alamitos Super Derby(G1) and third in the Governor's Cup Futurity(RG1). Volcom was a finalist in the Golden State Derby(G1), Los Alamitos Winter Derby(G1), Southern California Derby(G1), Vessels Maturity(G1), and Spencer L. Childes California Breeders' Championship Handicap(RG1).
Volcom was bred in California by John Andreini and is out of the Runaway Winner mare Runaway Vike.
Thomas, a rancher from Weatherford, Texas, purchased Volcom at the 2004 Schvaneveldt/Andreini Sale. He has also campaigned All American Futurity finalist Corona Ease and Los Alamitos Million finalist Lethal Bay.
