I show western pleasure, but I thought you guys might have more experience with this...
My 2-year old had been a bit off, not lame, trainer just said "she didn't feel right". Vet came tonight and floroscoped her, she has a HUGE displaced OCD in her right rear fetlock. It is so big and so displaced that he doesn't really know what to do about it. He said he's only seen it twice before, one horse had surgery and had a screw inserted, the other had 2 months of rest and both were fine. He is taking her films to a surgeons conference in 2 weeks to get some opinions. Right now she is on a month off training and on Adequan. Has anyone had any experience with anything like this? I am absolutely devastated.
ETA: This vet has a leg clinic, so he knows what he's talking about.

My dad has one that has small OCD's in both hocs, but he just injects the front joints with depo-medrol every time he runs. That just blocks the pain. It hasn't gotten any worse, but no better either. When he was young they thought about surgery and they sent pictures to the Elgin Clinic (supposed to be the best in Texas) to see what they recommended. They said they could be removed or scraped out or something, but they weren't real big, so they said to just wait and it wouldn't bother him that much. And it hasn't, he's run pretty good every time. But your deal sounds a lot worse. If its that big, its gotta hurt.

I don't know anything about OCD's, but they're pretty rare I guess. I worked for a vet this summer and my dad's was the only case we had. But it sounds like you're doing the right thing, time off and adequan, so I'd just wait to see what the experts say at the conference.

Well, I had been crying non-stop since I left the barn last night, but then my best friend reminded me that I have major medical on her so at least if she has to have surgery we won't go bankrupt paying for it.
