Be A Bono, the 2004 World Champion Quarter Horse, will be back at Los Alamitos next month according to trainer Dan Francisco. The son of Bono Jazz has been resting and relaxing at his owner's ranch in Fresno after going winless in his three outings this year. Be A Bono is the only two-time runner-up in the history of the Champion of Champions.
"We'll be pointing him to the Z. Wayne Griffin Directors Trials," Francisco said. "We want to see if we can get him in the Champion of Champions one more time. If we see that he needs a race before the Z. Wayne Griffin, then we'll look to run him in another spot."
Three-time
AQHA Champion Apollitical Time, who ran fourth in last year's Champion of Champions and third in that same race two years ago, is also looking for a return berth. Trainer Juan Aleman is pointing the Apollo (TB) filly to the Bank of America California Challenge on August 25. If she doesn't run in that race, then the Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap could be the next spot for her on September 21. Apollitical Time could possibly run in both races as well.
Meanwhile,
Champion Blues Girl Too, a daughter of Corona Cartel and winner of the 2006 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, is scheduled to race in next week's trials to the Golden State Derby.
Finally, Rainbow Futurity finalist
Early Morning Bite is now on the grounds at Los Alamitos according to trainer Donna McArthur. The third place finisher in the $625,000 Rainbow by Fishers Dash will be pointed to the Golden State Million Futurity trials.
