7 Ceders is right. LORD LORD, some of these mare, Ive had them twitched, Hobbled, and a chain over the lip, tied to the wall and they still are NOT NICE! I have to beg Tucker to get close to them. So out come the drugs. Its just not worth getting anyone or the horses hurt.

I have used Quietex on some of my bad clippers I give the dose then give them 10 and then lip chain them. The really quiet clippers work to and after you get him mostly out, on the bad ones I will careful use scissors first the then just just the small quiet ones to finish it off just brush them off more often.

In my house lip chain means knock it off or you will be in next week.

They definitely are if you're going to fight something that's going to get you killed or going to the hospital. The older I get, the less and less I'll put up with this mess!

Shazegoff, on your filly, I'd just twitch her and then you start clipping away. Had to do that last year with Scamp and even his sister - no biggy, two head tosses and that's it, where's the twitch! HA! Course now Scamp could care less... figures!

The vet costs 45 dollars just to show up though and her clinic is just two miles down the road. I can't drug him every time I need to clip!! Do you guys give your own shots?

Me, I go for the vein, But shoot it in the mouth, it does take alittle longer. About 40 mins or so for full effect.

Sheesh - I have all ends of the spectrum...
My old show gelding is a hoot! I walk up with clippers and he just stands there...I can trim anything and everything!

My race horses - HAHAHA - they don't like it so much...some are okay and just need a twitch - others need some happy drugs...I guess it helps that we get all of our meds by the bottle so we never pay the vet for shots...I'll give my own thanks!

The bad part is if you hit an artery instead of a vein- which in a horse is an easy mistake for someone to do who isn't trained by a vet or doesn't know what they are doing- you can kill a horse before you even pull the needle out... not ment to scare you all but also don't want to encourage people to give IV drugs without proper training or vet supervision... noone gives my horses DRUGS w/o DVM behind their name Smile -or myself/or my hubby who worked for our vet for several yrs.... leave the veins alone and give it orally if it can be given that way and then just be patient...

Yeah - I hear you...I've had some scares (allergic reactions)

I've been giving shots since I was about 9 and my fiancee gives a TON of shots every day (he works at a TB farm with broodmares, babies, stallions and horses in training)...sooo, between us we've given a bunch!

As long as you know anatomy you're pretty good...watch watch watch watch watch and then have supervised practice...

I learned on cattle (we did ET and all that jazz)...was always really scared to move to horses (so dang sensitive)...then one day I HAD to give a shot and from that point it got easy...

I agree, Lynn... I'm not comfortable hitting a vein and I don't like anybody else to do it except one that has a DVM at the end of their name... HA!

Remember, you guys, last year when I gave kid a shot of Banamine and that he blew up...good Lord, have mercy... Vet says, oh, I thought you knew that about one out of every 100 shots, you'll have an effect... well, why the freak didn't you tell me that!!!!! Well, I thought you knew! Well, how am I supposed to know if you don't tell me! (Vet laughing now) I didn't think it was too dad-blasted funny. Ended up getting it lanced, and he has just a bit of a bump right there, but you have to look for it if you didn't know what happened... Needless to say, any shots I give, I'm having heebies about it... so as far as other stuff, it's in the mouth, period!
