We were having temps way below normal and we were worried about the grass and hay, then we got a couple of good rains and nice temps and the grass fnally started looking good. Keeps them fat and sassy. They have cut back on the amount of mineral they are eating now that the grass is better.
Hickory is a bit of a bossy gelding, so his ears were back to let the horse in front of him know that he was comin' though.
I was hoping to find a sidepull for him, but all the local tack shop has is some cheap nylon deal with that cruddy rawhide braided over the noseband. I might have to get the one I want ordered in. I'd like to start riding him more regularily now that summer looks like it might stay.

I quite like him Smile What are you're plans for him this year? LOL and how do you have time!? LOL

ETA: Send the rain our way... we havent gotten a real good rain in quite some time, if at all this year. Things are just starting to get dry enough to risk fires....Sad

Oh, when he gets to go out with the big mares, he gets put in his place. Mostly he's out with the younger mares and the ponies.

Here's his pedigree, Hickory's got the pedigree to do cow horse stuff. His granddam, Miss Coop O Lea was an awesome cutter. We bought her finished, but bred. The breeder sent a few horses every year to the trainer. She just wasn't his choice to show. He picked a stallion instead. She died before we could get to any thing but open shows and practice cuttings.

I rarely get time to do anything with him Brandi. You know Penny & Robin, both his younger full sisters. I would have to say that Brennen has Penny better started than I have Hickory. Hopefully now that 4-H is basically done, other than Young Horse, I will get some time.

For my epiph colt I have been giving him a mineral recommended by my vet along with msm and stall rest with hand walking. Oh yeah, and bute and gastro guard. Cannot forget those.
I gave him some turn out yesterday while I was mucking his stall. He bucked it up out there, but came back in when I called him. I have also been cold hosing him. It's looking better, he's no longer knuckling over. He's being fed grass hay, and he's making sure I know he's not happy about it. He's a character. Sulks about the hay, but a real friendly guy.

Well hopefully you'll have more time for him in the future... for you to have some "you" time Smile

Too bad I didn't live closer, I'm in between client horses right now and could certainly lend a hand. I have Iniko I am working on, and have handed over Tristan and Manito to my trainer, so I have some free time (besides the outside mares for breeding). Guess I gotta haul in my last 2 yr old and start working with her.
